Default speedo

That's awesome, I claimed the same in college when I only had a 56' Chevy Stepside pickup for transportation, speedo did' work, just a tach. The boys in Charlotte did not like hot rods back then! Got a ticket for crossing the yellow line instead of speeding, 2 points!

Got busted in the car I rented on the way to pick up my 996... but never an issue since then. Lots of wide open spaces in the Pacific Northwest.

@Gator996: I just moved recently to the Gator Nation. Saw you can open the car up a bit through Paynes Prairie but don't know where to do it other than there.

"When he asked if I knew how fast I was going, I told him my speedometer only goes to 85 MPH"

Great answer!

So far, no stops in the P-cars.

The first weekend I had the C2, we did a road trip to the Keys. Somewhre around Key Largo my V1 lights up, showing 3 signals aft. 1 cop rolls past me at a fast clip as I am doing a stately 23 mph in a 25 zone. I still see 2 behind me, so I maintain parade speed. Eventually they caught up, giving me the evil eye as they passed.

I was lit up by laser last night on the way home in the GT3. As I was doing 17mph in 25mph zone, I was not overly concerned.

A few months ago, on another Take Your Track Toy To The Office day, I got hit by laser on US1 - I was doing 3 over. While the K40 was still burbling, a chick in a white VW bug blows by me. Then a kid on a dirt bike blows by her. Bug girl nails the brakes and pulls in behind me. The cop pulls out behind us, lights going, zooms up and then past me and Bug girl to wave the bike to the center lane. He is stopped in the left lane, blocking traffic, so as I pull up to him, I give him a "?" look. He waves me off to go on my way. As Bug girl tries to follow in my wake, pretty much glued to my bumperettes. Cop shakes his head at her and directs her to stop. She frantically points at me in the Please Arrest Me car, but he smiles and shakes his head again "no"

Happy memories.

Radar detectors have saved me many times - I am a believer.

I don't understand how the chick in the Beetle blew past you and then tucked in behind after the cop blew past.

I've only been pulled over for speeding when my cabrio top was down (2xs MD and 1x in VA). No radar/laser was used against me as a reason to pull me over nor to issue me a ticket. (so for me I wished they were man enough to admit in court they were wrong).

So in court, only to save myself time and money (even though I dragged this case on for a year), I once admitted traveling to 10 mph over. Is that man enough?

I started using radar detectors in my early 20's because of speeding accusations and now, 20 years later, I continue to use them (remote Passport versions nowadays).

I have a Python 360 laser detector on board. I do not speed simply because I have a detector on board. Many times I do drift over the limit.

At least you say that voluntarily, of your own accord.

I got tagged for speeding on my trip to S. Dakota

I was heading back to Rapid City after leaving Custer State Park and the speed limit changed 65 to 55 to 65 to 55. Must have been radar or laser as he was in the median.

I was going maybe 70 and the speed limit had just dropped to 55

Saw him pull out of the median as I passed him and he then lit up.

Just got a warning. Maybe it was because we were tourists in a rental car.
It was odd, because he said the speed limit had just dropped from 75 to 65 when he tagged me and to keep it at 65 as that was the speed limit the rest of the way to Rapid City.

Of course my wife could not resist calling both our kids to tell them I had been pulled over for speeding.

I love warnings. This one was from 2 Zonie troopers who could easily have impounded my Boxster but instead let me go with a warning. Cool dudes...the 75+ in a 65 was really 80+ in the speed trap east of Gila Bend, where the eastbound speed limit drops from 65 to 45, but since they tailed me for a while to see if I was really going to open it up into felony reckless driving and I instead maintained my fast-but-not-dangerous pace, they cut me an enormous break.

In all fairness, how can you NOT speed in a Porsche on a mile-long sweeping curve? What kind of monster takes such a road at 45?

My top ticket was in the late 80's at about 2am. It was a result of being tagged at 121mph in a 55. The Escort went off, I tapped the brakes, saw him on the other side of the Interstate downshifted and dropped the hammer. When he lucked up and found me about an hour later he said he got me at 121, I slowed to 119 as soon as he hit me with radar, but I was doing 139 when I outran radar.

The LEO had just finished telling me he never got close enough to get a plate number so he couldn't prove it was me, when the state trooper interrogating my passenger about 20 feet away literally started jumping up and down and pointing at my "friend" saying "Uh huh, uh huh, he said it was them!" Luckily they put us in separate cells...

After I bonded out, I found out that the girl I was dating at the time's older sister had just started dating the cop. He had the tickets "remanded to the judges file". Allegedly if I found myself in trouble there again, it would all come up. Fortunately it did not. I count myself extremely lucky!

That's not all the details, but it is the bones of the deal. It's much more colorful when I'm drinking!

I hate to say it (for reasons of Karma) but I have not gotten a ticket in the 996. I had an Escort 9500ix in since I bought it. I just put an Escort Max 360 in it about a month ago. They have both saved me. I've seen at least a 1/2 dozen people I was running in traffic with get tickets after I slowed due to an alert from the 9500ix. Why in the world if a car you were beside suddenly drops from 90 down to the speed limit would you press on?

Honestly - even though I drive VERY fast at times - I still drive far more safely overall than I did when I was young (say, under 25). I almost never find myself driving at an unsafe speed for the circumstances, and thankfully the CHP in SoCal have enough people to bust that they don't spend that much time doing speed traps in the middle of nowhere during off-peak hours, which is when I do the majority of my fast driving.

Yeah, I don't get that. If the guy in the 911 who has been flying along in the fast lane pops over three lanes and throttles back to 75 while reaching for the mute button on the detector, it might be a good idea to ease up.

McBit - DAMN.

*edit* Phew - after the AED->USD conversion, it's not as brutal as it looked.
