On a whim, weather is great across the southern US, might as well drive it.
Gonna pack the 996, head out from FL to OK, then towards NM and AZ and back. Figure about 5000 miles for this route in the next week or so.
See yall out there!
That's awesome. Enjoy!
Hit the northern route on the way home and I'll buy you a beer. Admission to the auto museum is free for anyone arriving in a 996.
Florida, Alabama and Mississippi went perfect. Finished Baton Rouge day 1.
Louisiana got careless and will be making a donation to local sheriff for going a little faster than posted.
Tagged Arkansas and Texas near Texarkana at the end of day two. Rain has set in so the Talihina portion will be delayed.
NM is in a blizzard so hotel time and a good meal is in order tonight in Muskogee.
Yeah, I think your weather went to hell on you. Be safe. If you are riding on summer tires, don't forget that those things get dangerous below 40 degrees.
Anything Dallas northward is gonna suck today--rain replaced by snow and ice. However I-10 through Houston/San Antonio/El Paso (DT's apparent FAVORITE road in TX ) should by dry and clear.
Truth be told, I-10 between Junction and Fort Stockton TX is rather dreary--200 +/- miles of road with near-total absence of character and scenery. Other than that it's not as bad as many make it out to be especially if you like light traffic and wide open spaces. I drive I-10 between Houston and Fort Stockton at least annually when I go visit Big Bend National Park, typically in late winter, so know it well.
Decided to camp out with some family for a few days and enjoy. Family took me out in the weather yesterday in their trucks around Oklahoma.
Lol am high and dry but cannot leave due to water over the roads unless MR. GADGET shows up and installs pontoons! Isn't there an option code for that?
P-Car is mad, has slept outside for two nights and am thinking this is the first cold weather it has seen. Have the battery tender going and actually am letting it idle to bring temps up on motor this morning.
Watching weather and will travel once things settle a bit. Thinking the I-40/Route 66 may be less desirable and may go south and do I-20/30 to I-10.
Am not going to be deterred on my goal. Will make Arizona next week even if there is a new set of tires purchased!
