Angry Broke my center armrest!

Stopped to get gas and leaned in to the car, opened the center console to get my wallet. Left it open because I was going to put my wallet back in but forgot.

Finish filling up, get back in the car and leaned into the arm rest as I got settled in the seat...CRACK!

So how much will replacing this cost me?!

It shouldn't cost you a thing. Your dealer will replace the plastic hinge with a metal one. A TSB covers that.

Don, will they do that if, like you and I, the car has a Bird transplant?

Gretch, I never thought of that. I suppose if a dealer was **** he could refuse, but since it's a TSB, he'll get his money. Actually we could probably buy the metal hinge and do it ourselves. Maybe someone on the list has had it done already....

There is a TSB that explains how to change the hinge. Let me know if you want it.

Question

Guys, Can you please explain what RIVET means? The manual says

"Rivet the hinge plate and the U-bracket together with the supplied pop-rivets. (Figure 3, arrows D)
After riveting, ensure there is no free-play, and that the installation is solid."

The picture in the TSB says to place the shorter, thinker part of the pop-rivets to join the U bracket and hinge. But It doesnt say how to address the longer nail looking part of the pop-rivet.

Can somebody please explian or send me pic on how the pop-rivets look after installing.
