Default Beep while parked?

I have searched my owners manual to no avail.

I have recently pulled my car into my garage (it's lived outdoors all summer). I parked it with the key removed, but doors unlocked. It is emitting an electronic beep (not to be confused with a horn beep) in about 30 second intervals for a couple of mins, then stops...but seems to restart periodically, again for a couple of min period. I have never noticed this before, as it's been parked outside I suppose.

What is this?

No doubt it's some system that is on but should not be.

My car has a low electronic beep if you remove the key with the lights on.

A common failure mode for electronic gremlins in the 996 is the electric module on the back of the ignition switch...

I counted last time I heard it. 11 beeps, 30 secs apart, then stops for extended period of time (hour or more).

Try locking the center console. Seems alarm system related. I think I read that if the center console is left unlocked, it somehow changes the alarm parameters. Does it still do this if you lock the doors?
Also like the idea of swapping the electrical portion of the ignition switch - if it is starting to go bad it drives the electronics on the car batsh!t crazy. Could also be related to a battery starting to go bad and causing funny electrical gremlins.

I know it sounds silly but where is the beep coming from? Under the front hood? Interior? Radio? Engine compartment? Seems if you can isolate where the beep is coming from it might help to figure it out.

The intermittent beeping might also be a warning that KK will shortly be joining this thread as a 996 basher. It should be in the manual.

When left outside, your car has been locked. Solve all the your problems by fully locking the car each time you leave it. EVEN INSIDE YOUR GARAGE. You should not hear a horn sound when you do this. You should only see and hear a double click as the lights flash twice when locking from the key fob plus you should see a red flashing light on top of the dash in the center of the dash. This red light continues flashing until you unlock the car again. Locking the car saves on the battery. If you ever hear the horn beep, then the car is not fully locked. ie:- check handbrake, locking console, engine lid and doors. After 5 days the fob stops working and you have to open the car manually via the drivers door.

I thought it actually used more battery to have the car locked and alarmed?

Think of it like this:
Car unlocked - all systems at the ready and good to go, everything is powered up and waiting for start
Car locked - all systems on standby, not ready to go, conserve energy, alarm monitored
After 5 days the alarm module stops listening for the remote to conserve more energy

Makes perfect sense. I just thought I read somewhere to always store car long term with doors unlocked and alarm off.

Interestingly, I did try locking the centre console hatch, and I haven't heard the beeping since.

Thanks all!
ps. Hurdigurdiman, did you get my PM?

Update. I tried locking the doors and the "beep" resurfaced...console still locked. I think it just wants to be driven.
