Good luck.

EDIT: I just checked their site. They will repair your factory auto-dimming mirror for $99.

^^^^ Great minds think alike. Thanks for pointing that out (but I was really just trying to pump up my post volume)

I have actually used them and was very pleased with the results. Much better than a hillbilly (Shadetree) repair.

Either "flatbed it to dealer" or do what Paul said. I have had great luck with these guys;

Here's a guy that I can vouch for selling one with auto-dimming for $75 shipped:

http://forums.quattroworld.com/swapmeet/msgs/7972.phtml

And has (5) ones without compass for $45 shipped:

Just click his name at the top and you can email him.

Thanks!

Not sure that mount will work though, I need to look into it more and it could be a winter thing.

The Dreaded Stereo Replacement in the Jeep was more urgent this weekend due to me driving it for 2 hours tonight and 2 hours straight tomorrow.

If you had an OEM mirror before, it's the same exact mount and just rotates 90 degrees to get it off/on, the electrical connector is exactly the same for the Audi and Porsche mirrors.

Yeah, but I went down that road and I got a manual mirror that "should" have fit, however the rain sensor mount is different.

Not saying a little superglue and sawing can't make it fit, but I'd rather not do that if possible.

Part #: 3C0-857-511-J

That's the VW part number for mine. Not sure on price yet, going to do more research.

I'm guessing now the original one failed, then they replaced it with a VW numbered part.

[edit]

Which turned out to be a dead end, and someone was selling the same mirror from a 997 for $200 so went and bought that. Again, if I didn't have the auto dimming side mirrors and rain sensor this would be a different discussion.

Got the used one in the mail today. =)

Good news is the mount fits and harness is the same.

Bad news is they changed it enough so that the plastic cover dosent fit without a decent amount of dicking around, so blue electrical tape will have to work. It's not like I see that anyway.

Not affiliated. Fast turn-around,

Good news is they can fix the old one, so going to get that done and now I'll have 2.

=)
