I was gonna mention this too but I believe they only repair your mirror and not do the LCD conversion. If a regular repair is done only, you have a chance to leak fluid later on as well. I had to replace my center console in my BMW as the fluid is acidic in nature and burn through the top layers of some of the trim. Not fun and the reason why I recommend the LCD conversion if available.

Right, I was just talking about the repair.

I've seen one of their conversions where they add Homelink to an existing mirror, so that's the other thing that I mentioned.

Yeah the fluid is nasty stuff, but I think we wiped up most of it and I can't see any damage a day or two later.

Gentex mirrors seem to be popular. If one of them will work for you you could get Homelink and a compass and...

If there is a leak, may be is too late, do not turn the auto-dimming function, on, check the LCD fluid for any pieces of glass, you may have to drop the whole rear view mirror for a complete inspection.

If the damage burn the circuits inside the mirror, you have to consider either to repair or buy a new one.

Good luck!!!

That's what I have as well ... Gentex auto-dimming mirror with compass and Homelink. I bought the mirror, wiring harness, and windshield mount adapter off eBay. It wasn't very expensive and works well; the only minor PITA was routing power from the center console up to the mirror (coupes have both switched and constant 12v power available from the dome light, but cabs do not).

If you go this route, be sure to get the mirror mount adapter that uses set screws to tighten everything up. It takes some fiddling to get it into place, but is very secure and solid once it's installed.

FWIW, Gentex mirrors have compass digits in different colors. Mine is amber and matches the dash illumination pretty well.

An Audi auto dimming mirror is interchangeable including the wiring harness connection. Get one from a C5 A6 or S6.

I put one in my car, bought the OEM wiring harness and installed it. Such a great upgrade.

Didn't call Jake, but did call my local shop. They had one from a while ago that was never used, going to get it to me for $35 later today after work. Then tonight that will allow me to act like a man and work on my car - or act like a man and bring it back to them so they can put it in.

=)

Now to get some gold leaf so I can plate the old one.

So calling the dealer tomorrow.

I got a manual mirror which will work with some superglue (hey, it was $35) but doing that may or may not impact the side mirrors that may or may not still auto dim.

**superglue meaning that the mount is different for those of us who have the auto mirror and those manual mirrors and I guess that having a rain sensor has something to do with it too. So the easy way is to cut the base/neck of the mirros and glue them together. Shouldn't be hard at all, and should work great. Just have to find out the conquences of unplugging the mirror first.

Why not just get a used auto dimming mirror especially if you have outside dimming mirrors?

My Audi replacement mirror fit in exactly the same spot as my OEM non dimming mirror. It was super simple. Don't loose the function, you'll hate it at night with a SUV or truck behind you.

I'm going to track one down I think, but in the mean time $35 and a little glue will be good enough to get me going again. Or to have a spare if this happens in the future.

Although it looks like the Audi mirrors aren't that much more expensive anyway...

Yeah, I'll get a cheap one, more than likely I'd need to change the mount and glue stuff together anyway but that's not the end of the world.
