Can't wait for your pics and vids. Btw, any mods needed for the throttle body, injectors and DME tune? Or the stock ones will be fine?

I think if you go to the beginning of this thread, it depends on who's answering that question; ) it's been discussed.

I was told by LNE that no supporting mods are needed.

at the minimum, I will get a tune done.

I wish I could afford more...but I do love my wife, AND my life. ha!

thrust washers installed, these have grooves in them and it is important they face out. One on each side:

added engine assembly lube to the bearings and washers, and dropping the crankshaft in:

Nice work. I'm just a little further than you. Have 3 con rod's attached to the crank. Agree, those ARP bolts are stupid expensive. Had to wait for mine 8 weeks and it was around $350CDN. Did you have the crankshaft polished? From the pictures it doesn't look like it was done.

Edit: Sorry I mixed those up with the con Rod bolts.

yup, journals were polished on the crankshaft. what you see is streaks from the engine assembly lube when I turned it in the half bearing case.

do you have a thread?

Yes I do but it's on a different site where I don't need to pay to post pictures. http://reutterwerk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42947

Currently I'm fixing a fellow RL's 928 but as soon as I'm done with it, the 996 project is restarting.

Just a comment on the thrust bearings. It's amazing how minimalistic they are. Normally they are part of the main bearing and go all the way around the crank. The 996 essentially only has half the amount of thrust bearing surface area as other "more normal" engines. The power of the bean counters certainly come through here. The other unique thing about 996 engine parts is that they sell the main and connecting Rod bearings individualy and not in pairs. Who the hell would buy just a half a bearing? Very bizarre. Maybe it's a Porsche thing.

would the housing from a 3.4 fit the 3.6 motor? all I see on ebay are housing units from a 3.4

something like this: http://m.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-99...807?nav=SEARCH
Insure you don't get a early housing with 3 mounting points instead of the improved 4 mounting points.

Sorry I didn't realise that. However signing up is the same as here, very simple. The site is actually owned by the original owner of Rennlist.

Charles at LNE saw my thread and was nice enough to offer me some stuff I couldn't refuse. so while I wait for the parts to get to him, I sent my IMS shaft and bearing to LNE for an inspection. once I get the parts in, I can continue with the build, but with the holidays and another baby on the way, updates will be sparse. I promiss to post here when I do make progress though.

slowly but surely.

Weird, I've been able to post pictures no problem as a free loader.
