"Faster" than a 996
#16
I've gotten a few baits several times in the last year of ownership and I must admit that while I resist the urge to beat the crap out of my car, a couple times I've taken the bait and luckily I put them in their place. But, I can see a lot of cars that could beat the crap out of my 996 in a heart beat.
What really annoyed me once though was I was driving normally minding my own business and this stupid Corolla literally just cut me off and started to drive slow. I couldn't take it anymore, I had to teach him a lesson. A dam Corolla!

Had a few guys in this rice burner small civic or something want to race at a light. It was all in good fun and a pretty normal 1st to 3rd beat them. I was only going up to 30 anyway.
Got a kick out of my friend when we were talking about oil "well you aren't hard on the car" yeah, these things can do quite a bit and I'm not even close to the limit.

I don't get it.

I do miss my "ricer" Tiburon. It was fun when other people who know Tibs are fairly gutless would give me the "wow, is that thing fast" line - and later realize it was far from stock. My wife misses the car as well - she walked kids on several occasions. She has more of a speed problem than I do...
That car was DEFINITELY faster than my 996 - but from a dig, the torque steer was a wristbreaker...
Intercooled. Supercharged. Stickers. What else do you need?

There is a guy around here with an older F-250 Diesel, I know he is running propane as I can see the tank in his bed and by the sweet smell I think he has nitrous as well. I am guessing he is running around 500+ hp. I was behind him at a light and next to him was a 370z and both were revving their engines. When the light turned green the F-250 smoked him off the line in a cloud of smoke. I unfortunately had my top down and had to breath that crap.
Catching my breath I caught up to the Z, looked over at him and gave him the No No wave with my finger then we both laughed.

Yeah, that's one trick the diesel guys love - to smoke out the poor bastard in the next car over with the top or windows down. Never happened to me, but I have rolled my windows up once or twice because I thought it might...

Yea, this "faster than a 996" thing happens to me too. Could be any kind of car - minivan to F150 to rice burner. Seems to be younger guys more often than not, got something to prove I guess.
But I think it could be a "faster than a Porsche sports car" phenomenon, as it seemed to happen even more often in the Boxster. Not sure if it was the color (black), or maybe some people are just a bit more intimidated by a 996 than a 986.

I get the usual people that feel the need to run up on my *** between lights and on the highway. I guess they are trying to prove a point or take out their car frustrations on me.
I could care less, time in my car is all about me. The world could be collapsing and I could care less. Life is too short not to enjoy these cars.

In the gta this is all too common. Seems everyone in their ****box has to pass the nice car. Happened to me in my Vette all the time and now the 911. I can be doing 20 or even 30 over and some guy in a rusted to **** Honda Civic has to pass me. Not that I care I find it comical but it doesn't go unnoticed.

Frankly, I RARELY have anyone try to race me on the street. Maybe a ricer one or twice a year, that's about it.
Also, there are a TON of sleeper cars out there, so you never know what you are up against.
1,000 HP SmartForTwo anyone?

^ Yup. It's fun being the person with the sleeper. The guy who calls the sleeper out, not so much, so I just mind my own bidness.
You could take that 1,000HP Smart, add claws and fangs, and make it shoot fire on demand in any direction...and it's still a Smart Fortwo. Maybe the baddest damn Smart Fortwo ever, but...
There's a guy who used to run his SRT Neon at RaceLegal - he had a HUGE snail on that thing, and loads of other mods - but at the end of the day, it was still a yellow Neon.
I saw the same mindset when I had my modded Tiburon - it was TREMENDOUS fun to make a slow car fast, but then you do the math and realize how much money has been burned. I knew a couple of guys who ticked past the $50K mark - race motors, twin turbos, stuff you can't even imagine stuffing into a Tiburon - and realized that if I spent that kind of money, I didn't want to still wind up with a Hyundai in the garage.

You guys all have it wrong and are not understanding the situation.
Your in a sports car and Racing is in the foundation of our truly amazing cars.
Every time someone accelerates and passes us our instant reaction is, it's a race! Understandably so..... But the reality is quite different.
They are just admiring the car and want to see the front view.

My LR2 sports the following bumper sticker:
Yes, I own a gun
Yes, I know how to use it
Yes, I will shoot you
I'm rarely cut off in traffic, and nobody has ever flipped me off, nor pulled alongside with verbal abuse.
Strange.
Perhaps a duplicate for the 996 merits consideration.

This is so funny, I was just talking to my sister about this… Feeling like everyones car is faster than mine as I'd noticed at red lights it seemed off the line i needed to push the car a bit to keep up with others taking off at green lights. Never an issue when in the SUV… ha ha, nuts….
