996 owners... where do you put your phone?
#219
First off... using proper forum etiquette I did read this entire thread. There is one suggestion I did not see posted and, accidentally using this method myself, I felt compelled to share. My solution is a tad complicated so please follow along.
This works for 2004 996 with carpeted floor mats.
1) Open cup holder.
2) Place phone in cup holder (I sport an iPhone 6 with thin case).
3) Drive
4) Allow phone to fall through cup holder and into passenger foot-well.
5) Brake hard while approaching stop light. The goal here is really get the phone slid as far up the passenger foot-well as possible.
6) Accelerate like you're in a drag race from light in step 5. The goal here is to slide/lodge the phone under the passenger seat.
Once the phone is under the passenger seat it will stay there. For whatever reason, anything that gets underneath that seat can only be removed while on your knees next to the passenger door and bending inward at 90 degrees putting your head level with the seat cushion then reaching under the seat to retrieve secure items. Small hands recommended.
If you can get the phone to fall screen up that's better otherwise all the sliding may scratch the screen. I know the door pocket seems easier at first but trust me when I say the phone is very secure under the seat and there is no risk of distraction from it while under there because you simply won't be able to get to it until you pull over and kneel down in a strange parking lot with everyone looking at you like your nuts.
I'm considering swapping the CD holder for the tray but the above is a no cost option and, again, is way more secure. That bloody phone was _not_ coming out from under the seat no matter how I drove. Good luck with this method. It may take practice but I was lucky enough to get it right on the first (accidental) try.
