Quite a remarkable visual difference MHS525. The key to this looking good is the decent color match to the car. Also saw this from someone else using "carbon fiber" look vinyl wrap on a grey car. Not so successful in that case.

Can you imagine how awesome the GT1 would look like with 911 headlights? We'll never see our headlights again on a 911. Good riddance.
Still the 996 is the best value for the money and I love it. Especially as easily remedied as the headlights are.

Ok, I'll be THAT guy.

Looks like you did a really good job, but I think it looks stupid. Get over it people. It's a 996 and it has different (and superior IMO) headlights. If you want a bug eyed Porsche there are plenty of options pre and post 996. Go buy of of them and stop feeding into the "OMG not a 911!" garbage.

Personally I think the 996.1 are the best 911 headlights to date. If they had stayed with the stupid bug eye look having a 911 would still be just a dream for my wife and we would have had a Ferrari instead (so glad we didn't do that!). It keeps the general lines of the older cars, but has a much more refined look to it.

I used 4-5 inch pieces and just worked my way around the headlight. If you use the right size and take your time its easier than you might think. I had never done it before and I only threw away a couple of pieces of tape per headlight.

Its not just the headlights. Look at how much unpainted plastic there is on a 996 nose because of the headlights. On the race cars with these lights there is more painted surface on the nose of the car giving the design better balance and the headlights don't dominate the nose.

I'm sorry, it looks horrible and like you are trying to hide something. With that said I like the 996 headlamps so what do I know.

I am not sure why, but I think the MK1 headlights look great, especially if the car has the full aero package. Somehow the styling fits better IMHO. But even without the aero, they look just fine.

I'm not a fan of MK1 headlights, but less of a fan of headlight mods. Even so, this appears to be well done for the people that like the mod.

I think these look amazing, it really works well with the color of car. It looks unique, but not overly done. It also gives it a different visual look that I quite like. Good work mate!

Agree.

When growing up the boxter and 996 were my first real impressions of these cars, the old ones were nice, but to an impressionable high school kid the new ones were impressive. So, due to that, I love the way the lights look and from an owner point of view it's nice to have something that you've lusted a little after.

That said, I can understand if that look isn't for everyone and that someone would want to change it, and that's fine. It's, however, not something I'd comment on or really care about in person. Driving these and talking about driving these is more fun than talking about visual mods.

I did the mod using vinyl
It looks awesome
It only works on dark cars.

I wanted to do the mod using vinyl but I couldn't figure out how to cut out the perfect oval when the headlight was covered?
