Default Headlight experiment

I had some spare time over the long weekend so I decided to try something different with the headlights. It peels right off. Not sure how long I will keep them painted but I like it more that I though I would.

Masked the headlight and directional with painters tape then "painted" them with black Plasti Dip then Plasti Dip Glossifier.

Plasti Dip is a rubberized coating that goes on like spray paint but dries to a textured rubber like finish. It's not my first choice for the type of finish you get but it peels off without affecting the original surface. It became popular with people who wanted to black out their wheels. Some people take it to the extreme and paint their whole car with the stuff.

I just wanted to see what it would look like without doing anything permanent to the very expensive Litronic headlights.

Seen lots of headlight cover before but none using plastdip till now. Smart choice due to ease of removal as you already pointed out (read about how much of a PITA it is to remove)

Looks better than the headlight covers which are thicker and look like an add on. Nice job.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I tried it on a whim but i think I am going to keep the lights like they are for a while.

I have had the headlight covers for five years and the fit is not perfect. Like this route or the ones that have been posted with the very heavy tint. Anything is an improvement over stock. (That will bring in some dissent). It makes the car look like a 911.
As I've posted on every headlight cover thread, if our design was a good idea you'd see lots of covers to convert 911 headlights to 996's.

Hahah op, I really hate modding the Mk1 litronic lights, but I have to say, good job. Looks very nice. I've grown to like my headlights.
