Default wish I was as rich as I am stupid

Drove my former 996 today...made the dealer an offer to buy it back. I'll know if it is accepted tomorrow morning. I love the lines of the 997 more, but driving the 996, even with 72 year old reaction times and knees, it is the more fun car to be in. The interior is so clean and honest...and yes I can feel the missing horsepower but the 996 is more than fast enough. I'll post as soon as it is back in my possession.

How much is my mistake going to cost me? All things in, about $9,000. On the other hand I'll be saving $17,000 so I'm still ahead $8,000. More or less. But the truth is that I'm out $9,000 and I won't bother itemizing it.

Oh yes, and I prefer the stock 996 suspension to the sport and normal settings on the 997. And I prefer the way the 996 took a set in some turns.

What more can I say. I made a decision that it turns out I regret making. And I'll have to pay the price.

I guess I have the honor of being one of the first to welcome you back to the 996 fold. Its almost as if you never left. Be honest with us though, you really just missed the 996 crew here didn't you?

That's clearly the driving force behind the decision

I wished I believed you've ever owned a 911 at all.

Please, just promise us that you'll still rile up the 997 guys once or twice a week ...

I just offered the dealer $100 more than you offered.

This is pretty interesting. I like my 996 a lot, but think the 997 looks even better. If I had the money, I would definitely consider an upgrade to the newer model.

John, everyone makes mistakes, few are as out front about stupid mistakes as you are. Most of us are "closet mistakers" Many come to Vegas and lose more than that but will only talk about the free drinks and the comped rooms.

Exactly, we all make mistakes. Kudos to you for openly admitting yours and even putting a price tag on it.

They are like accidents on the side of the freeway. You hate yourself for looking, but you're interested just the same.

Now that he's all got us looking anytime he posts, I'm waiting for him to pull a Rick-roll out of his hat

John, it's ok to flip-flop around. No worries. I understand it's all the rage these days out there in LA-LA land.
