Default 2002 4S Fading Red Calipers Clear Coat Choice

Hey folks,

I am sure it is been discussed but haven't found the definitive answer so apology if repetitive.

My Red S Calipers are fading, not damaged and not chipping just fading. I think it was something to do with the previous owners choice of cleaning supplies (the Champion wheels the car came with - were faded as well). From what i have read it looks like a clear coat should do the trick after a through cleaning/degreasing (interestingly they are nice and bright red when wet).

What clear coat spray should i use?

Is VHT SP730 the right choice?

You know what I use and it has held up mile after mile - Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Enamel. Whenever I have the wheels off I clean up the calipers with brake cleaner and some mineral spirits, then give them a couple of good shots with the spray can. I don't mean to go all cheap on you, just sharing what I do. I'm telling you - it really works, it holds up and doesn't peel, and looks perfect.

VHT is a good OTC choice for caliper paint. Their regular non-high temp clear coat sucks for any intricate work.

Sand, Chemically strip, Sand Blast. Those are your options depending on your resources available to you. You will not be able to remove just the clear portion only, at least not easily.

I dunno. Mine is simply flaking off, leaving the black paint and PORSCHE lettering behind.

Sweet, you might be lucky then. Do you know if your car was previously tracked? I see this a lot with tracked cars.

Mine is doing the same thing... I highly doubt mine was tracked but you never know.

Judging the condition of the car, I suspect not but honestly don't have a clue.
