Default 02 bosch starter part number question

I have the embarrassing Wheezing from the starter at some points and i want to replace it with a new bosch. When i check amazon for part # SR0451N it brings it up but the reviews say it does not work for this year car.

The bosch website says it's a good part number but wanted to verify here with anyone who had replaced theirs.

I'm not sure about that part number for an 02 but I have found out recently that in order to ensure you get a NEW starter make sure the part number ends in N...as opposed to X (re-man). I spoke with Bosch and they confirmed a new starter comes with lifetime warranty, unlimited mileage. You can check your part number on Pelican Parts.

Joe is right. The correct one for your car is Bosch SR0808

That's odd that they say that it's not a direct fit but SR0451N is

I know but click on part #27 here and see what the stock starter looks like.

I can confirm that Ahsai is correct on his part number- you want the SR0808. I actually replaced my starter this week for the same wheezing symptom - I ordered the other part number (the one with the extended shaft), because a LOT of parts websites say it is he correct one. It's not. The shaft doesn't fit and the holes don't line up.

Good find on Amazon. Can't believe I didn't check there... I paid $220 for a rebuilt 0808 from pelican.....

Thanks Copilot. If you don't know yet, you may want to check out porschepartshub.com for parts in general in the future. I get all my parts almost exlusively from them. They have the best deals in town. For Bosch starters, alternators, and O2 sensors, Amazon has pretty good deals.

Thanks copilot, that really helps. Even the Bosch website gives the incorrect part number.

$195 with tax for a brand new one shipped via amazon, done! Gotta love that lifetime warranty.

I can also confirm the Bosch SR0808N works. That is what I put in. Got the same deal from Amazon and was very pleased with the shipping. Ordered Friday night before 6PM and got it Saturday morning at 10AM. Good luck with your project. Are you doing the replacement yourself? It's not a hard job but pay particular attention to the vacuum lines during reinstallation. I forgot to hook up the one to the left side intake plenum, and, of course the engine had a vacuum leak and expressed it's displeasure by throwing a whole slew of P codes. I had to go back in and fix. Pain in the butt to have to pull everything out again, but perfect in the end. Gave me an opportunity to disassemble the TB and totally clean it with TB cleaner.

Great to hear. I'm replacing it myself along with the aos. I might as well do that since i'm in there already. i still have a half can of tb cleaner, so that will be on the list too.

I'm almost halfway there. I've got the alternator out and am on my way to the starter and aos.

So far i have only broken the joining socket, part number 996 106 226 52. When i broke that and the coolant came out, i was like wtf? The clamps that hold that hose on looked to be something that i couldn't replace, but once i got the belt off and the other crap, it doesn't look as difficult.

I guess i might as well replace the plugs while things are apart.

These tools will make the plugs easier to change. Plus the security bits make removing the MAF easier if/when the time comes.

I have a lot of different size extensions, but being attached to the socket would be a nice advantage. It's amazing what the right toll will do.
