I didn’t love the 996 when I first started shopping for another 911. I would never have thought of trying to make it look like another car, though. It’s not like I disliked it, just didn’t love it.
Fast forward three years into ownership, and I flat out love this car. It’s a beautiful design to me. I definitely think it’s the most unique 911, and the 996.1 lights in particular are just works of art to me.
One of the goofiest things you can do is try to make a car look like another car. It never looks right. Not only that, it just screams that you are embarrassed of your own car. As a former 997.2 owner, I have a newfound appreciation for the 996, and I’m just focusing on making it the best 996 it can be... not turning it into something else.

In my humble opinion, unless you are sitting on a fortune, don't waste your money on any body fabrication it will look stupid as he'll and you won't be able to sell the car. Replace the crunched parts of the body with stock pieces. If you want it to look classically retro, put a set of Fuchs wheels on it and a ducktail. It will look retro, and damn good.

Here is a link to a doctor that does the reassignment surgery. (sorry couldn't resist).

If you are looking for retro ideas that fit the car and won't kill resale values, Google RPM Technik. They are a UK company that has come out with body parts and mechanical upgrades for the 996. They have 3 different variations of body work, wheels etc in pictures that you can get some ideas. Their bodywork revolves around different front/rear bumpers, a carbon fiber ducktail, and wheels such as Fuchs. Plenty of articles written about them and their 3 configurations.
