I have been kicking around a purchase and will be putting two other vehicles up for sale to fund a c4s purchase very soon with the goal of a spring purchase.

Question is where have you folks found your cars?

I have been looking at Rennlist, Pelican, eBay and the pca mart.

What are some other good venues for used 996's?

Pretty much covers it. Throw in Autotrader, Craigslist, and cars.com.

Agree, set up email alerts on Autotrader, cars.com, and ebay. RL listings are high quality when they come up. Good luck and enjoy the search. C4S is a great configuration.

I found my car on Autotrader, at Park Place Porsche in Dallas. I had alerts on Autotrader and Cars.com. I'd search Craigslist every morning too. I looked for a year before I found the car.

Found mine on AutoTrader.

Cruise the used car lots in your area. I see tons of 996s on the lots here. Of course, 99.6% of them are vastly overpriced at the used car lots.

Excellent point you make there. All I can figure is that a lot of buyers don't do much research if they are paying anywhere near what I see them asking (I cruise the lots all the time, just for fun).

OP, our region's PCA also has a classified section on the monthly magazine. That's usually local guys that are well-known, so a good source. Ask around your PCA, usually some good leads there, too.

Cuda, I think the guys that pay the high lot prices do so because the lot gets them financed. Most folks with cash or there own way of financing will buy from private sellers or will only buy from a lot if the price is right. With these cars being as cheap as they are many customers are working class folks and not the same as the original buyers were when the cars were eighty thousand dollars. The only reason to buy from a dealer is if it has the perfect car for ones tastes or a way to finance that the customer doesn't.

Cuda and JD are absolutely correct. I eyed my car for 3 months and waited for the right time to strike. I found it on craigslist listed for 38k 3 years ago wich was waaaaay too high. For sure it wasnt going to sell for that price then he dropped it to 35k and passed on to a dealer as a consigntment car. The dealer had it for a month at 35k so i called and made an offer for 30k. After a long negotiation they sold it to me for 31k.

I have been searching for a C4S and have looked at a few C2's as well for the last few months. Seems like the best shot is from a private seller and also every deal I am seeing is mostly out of state. I can continue to hold out to find one within reasonable distance but my patience is running out. I found one for the right price but shipping will be required. You also have to take into account maintenance you will be spending. There are a lot for sale but a lot that are overpriced.

I bought an engined damaged 02 from Raby. Then had them do the engine since it was there already.

Now that is the way to do it! I would love to find a car with a reconstructed engine by Raby and co. It is tempting to just have him do an engine and find a roller to put it in.
