Car is now with the shop to get the suspension work done, and a few other things. Last part of the project will be finishing off the interior.

Colour appears more blue in the pictures - it's pretty much a perfect turqoise - halfway in between Ocean Jade and Ipanema Blue.

After purchasing it, at the very start of Covid, I drove it for about 2000 km, and took it to my mech, to get a bunch of things that HAD to be done. New brakes and rotors, OEM; new clutch and lightweight flywheel, which they said were GT3 RS parts (maybe there’s overlap?), so, same parts back in; drop the tranny, get a Guard LSD installed; new engine mounts; new coils and leads; new heat shields; Gundo hack on the exhausts; Numeric shifter installed; proper alignment, that wasn’t done.
So, after this work was completed they invited me up to the shop, to have a look. What they showed and explained to me was that the motor simply wasn’t making oil pressure, they attached a metered oil pressure gauge to the top where the oil pressure sensor normally goes, and it was barely readin 1 bar, whereas I believe it should be in the neighborhood of 5. It sounded a bit tappety too, we’ll a lot, actually,
they said simply at this point, it was likely in need of a new oil pump and hopefully the engine was not damaged. Turns out the oil pump is deep in the center of the engine. Soooooo…

I saw the engine last night, apart on the bench, and it is an impressive thing to behold. Fortunately, there was zero damage to the engine anywhere, but the oil pump, she kaput. So, now what do you do, put it all back together with some fresh loctite on some bolts. No sirreee… all new parts such as rings, seals, bearings, one-use bolts, etc etc.
That’s the tale of how the rebuild came to pass, nothing dramatic, no connecting rods poking out, it took me a while to process it, but we’re here now, and so…
So it ain’t cheap but it’ll be good for another 20+ years, spent with me, until I can’t get in and out of it anymore.
Aaaaah, makes me smile.
I feel like I’ve snagged an important piece of Porsche history (it’s the OG GT3, where it all started), a wickedly fun special car to learn and enjoy in!

Wow! Thanks, that quite a thing to hear, I’ve never owned anybody’s dream car. Thank you, makes me feel even more pleased with myself—around all these .2s I’m a bit of a wallflower, there’s a lot of them!

Anyhow, thank you for the nice words, and if I ever have a chance to let you take her for a spin, just ask! You’re more than welcome to!

The car looks great. What front splitter is that? Also, did you have to drill holes in the bottom of the bumper for it to fit? Thanks.

Thanks, guys! The front lip is from Dp-Motorsports, it will need drill holes to mount it.

Thank you. That’s what I thought. I bought the same one and then decided not to drill holes. Car looks great!

Does anybody know what a 996.1 aerokit or GT3 front bumper looks like without side skirts?
