^That's a nice photo. It would be even better if the zip tie doesn't make contact with the rubber boot as it will add friction to the cable.

Update: Well last night I didn’t get a chance to work on the 911, but this morning I was going to make a video of the clanking noise and post it, Before I started the car I wiggle the stick shift back and forth and side to side, then I proceeded to start the car, I started the car then went to the back to start video recording and the noise was GONE..... So this weekend I will fix the shifter and take some pics of the work.

I'm not sure how I managed to miss the whining/clanking sounds you mentioned in the first post. That would have freaked me right out. One possible source for both sounds could be a failing SAI pump - certainly a known suspect for whining, and someone else posted that theirs was making a "pinging metal-on-metal sound" - which I'm really hoping is your "clanking."

If the "clanking" sounds more like marbles in a coffee can, don't run it any more.

Ok so this morning I decided to get the 911 fixed I jacked up the car and this is what I found. It was a quick fix thank you all for the advise and the help

Jacked up the car and worked from the ground.


Found both cables dethatched.


Slide then back to where they belong.


$2.49 Zip Ties.


Zip Tie them tight!!!!!!


Secured the cables with Zip Ties and the 911 is shifting like new...... thank you all again!!!!!!
