So forgive because this isn't a CL find but I'm thinking of checking this 996 out, https://www.wheelcitymotorsnc.com/10...rrera-for-sale

A few quick emails back and forth the dealer said it has a replacement motor from Porsche due to IMS failure 10k miles ago (they have an invoice showing the motor was replaced). It looks like it's in decent shape and I'm thinking of driving out to look at it. If it looks good I'll try and get a PPI. What are your guys thoughts on the replacement motor?

I don't have experience with rebuilt 996 motors, but I was thrilled to find a Jeep with 150k on the odo and a fresh motor for the same price it would have been if had the original engine with 150k. But, it isn't a sure thing. The quality of the rebuild matters a lot, and even from the best sources, is a bit of a risk. The quality of the install is at least as important. You could have headaches with vacuum leaks, electrical issues, stripped screws, etc. So, have somebody well equipped determine whether it is "good as new" or whether, as is also possible, somebody needs to take the engine out and put it back in again.

Personally, I'm happy to take a risk where there is a lot of potential upside, and I'd LOVE to have a 996 with a fresh motor for the fresh gaskets and seals alone. But only if the rebuild and install were done right.

It does look nice but that seems like a high price for a salvage cab when you can get one with a clean title for a similar price.

I don’t know. I shared it because it seemed like a pretty fair price considering the ownership history, maintenance history, relatively low miles, and somewhat desirable color combinations even given the title issue. Those headlight covers should just peel right off as well.

Nothing wrong with sharing it, I agree it looks like a nice car with a nice history but the salvage title is going to hurt it unfortunately. Why would you pay 17k for it when you could get a clean one with the same or less mileage for 20k? I think at 13-15k that is a better price, maybe closer to 15k with all the work done to it.

I live in Danville. Can’t tell from the photo but if it’s the used car dealer I’m thinking of that’s down the street from me it’d be worth a look. Before I bought my car last year I looked at a 29k mile 2004 C2 they had in the showroom. Was pristine. Just over budget for me. If it is this same dealer, they had a lot of very nice high end sports cars in their showroom and seemed to be a good operation. Feel free to shoot me the name of the shop if you want so I can confirm it’s the same one I’m thinking of.

Check insurance and ability to get loan if you need it. Salvage title normally goes for 40% less than a clean title. I have a Salvage title without damage (theft recovery) 1999 Cab that i couldn't get $12k for. It is a Tip which hurts some a well but I think that $17k is a stretch for that car.

Had those same covers, they were based by TechArt and were body bonded to the headlights.
Sold them on ebay complete with lights

Quoting my own post but I contacted the dealer and he did have an invoice of the shop that did the work on the replacement engine. Engine was done in 2012 at a price of $19k which a warranty covered. Roughly 10k miles on the new engine since install. I'm going to drive up Saturday and have a look at the car and if it looks good I'm going to get a PPI done by a local Porsche dealer I almost bought a 991 a while back. This is stupid question and I plan on emailing the shop that did the work but on the invoice it says Factory Porsche Engine, would you think this is a new engine? Or used engine?
