Googling the VIN brought up some very interesting sites.

The last photo explains the tailpipe.
Someone must have bought it, tried to repair it, and is trying to unload it.
I'm guessing the front end damage is pretty extensive.

That makes a lot more sense now. I think I was watching one of samcracs videos he talks about checking other sites for this exact reason.

I think one of the best deals that I have seen lately

Very good price, reasonable low miles, quite rare color for a 4S... but more important, the very very rare sunroof delete option, together with sport seats...

Probably not a blown head gasket, but a cracked head.

Wonder what happened? A little over a year ago it was sold with a clean carfax and title but now it says salvage title. Never heard of a blown engine causing a salvage title.

Could that happen if the engine was an insurance claim?

Thought about that but not aware of an insurance policy that covered blown motors but not an expert by any means.

Huh so it was totaled before and attempted to be repaired.

It also was listed here in the Northeast prior to being totalled.
Now it's in CA with an FL title. Amazing how these get around

What about one of those aftermarket warranty companies?

I am aware of the aftermarket warranties that will repair your car should something file but I never heard of one that would total your vehicle if the repair costs were too high. Could be I guess.

It seems to vary a lot State by State. In some states (like where I live) you can get a (rebuilt) branded title if the insurance company declares the vehicle as "totaled". It doesn't have to be destroyed, the insurance company determines that it is uneconomical to repair. But lots of places have different approaches.

That GT2 looks fixable to me. It depends on the buy in price to see if it makes sense to rebuild it. For a driver, it would be fine. I suspect the resale value would suffer.

The 2000 may not actually be a salvage title...A quick email to the seller can confirm.
I bet he wish's he kept his AMG instead!
