I'm not a pro just a guy who likes cars...
If I were selling that car and my starting price was 18k$ I'd be looking to get pretty close to that number to let it go. Looks clean and if the "one owner" and car fax is clean to me that is a big plus. I like one owner cars.
That said, If I were buying that car I'd like to be closer to 14k$.

Personally, the '99 in that Autotrader ad, is pretty nice and if the mechanicals have been maintained as the seller states in the description, then it's a fair price IMHO. It's always smart to get a PPI on the car and use that to get the seller to knock another grand off the asking price. Or, just take you chances, inspect the car yourself for known 996 issues, and make an offer. I've seen many '99 in the same condition for a low as $12,000, but they're rare and hard to come by. Seems averages price for a 99' in good condition have been in the $19K range. If you could get it for around $16,000 - $17,000, that would be a steal.

Can we talk about the varioCam on these 99-01 996? I'm still learning about these cars and correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need to replace the chain pad inside the engine at some point which requires a great deal of work? Please educate me and other newbies.

I think you could negotiate a bit, as there are a couple of other C4S listings with ~50k mi within $6-7k of this. The higher miles are nothing to be afraid of as far as I can tell. In fact I'm told lower miles could be a really bad thing, if the car wasn't driven much. Pretty obvious but especially relevant for these cars I think.

Here's a new listing for 1999 model with the rare LSD option: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto...385804603.html
It has a rebuilt title. Maybe a good track car?

Geez, nice find. After seeing that color combo at cars & coffee a while back, i swore that'd be what I'd buy when it was time for a 911. Looked for months with no luck. If i were looking for a '99, that'd be at the top of my list and $18k + a clean PPI would do it for me. Good luck and let us know if you nab it.

Mirage is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it color ... I really like mine, but I'm not sure I could handle that red interior. Still, $12k would be hard to pass up.

That's very tasty indeed. Looks like it's had suspension, too - would be interesting to know what.

I prefer the Mirage Metallic over silver any day. For some reason, every red interior I've seen seems to hold up better to ware and tear then others colors.
