I think people do that to make it more attractive to the buyer. For a long time the "internet" said that is the thing to do. Isn't it only recently that the forums like this one have changed their thinking to keeping it original?
Just curious, with only 31K miles what would be the potential concerns?

It's just how it is.
Or factor it in the price.
From what I have read, the lower the mileage the higher the concerns over the IMSB failure.

I view people who fix the IMS prior to sale as it being a proactive condition to closing a sale. Everyone knows the IMS is an issue - and those that are not fixed price lower and/or might not sell because of perceived fear. If you spend the $2.5k to fix the IMS, you might gain more upside on overall total value of the car when sold to gain a few $$$ in profit.....
And yes, low mileage cars are more prone to failure (i think rationale is because the bearing is not as lubricated)

I could run a live feed from one of the social media sites about removing and replacing the IMSB showing a perfect bearing coming out, and a new bearing going in, and someone would surely come along and say 'that video is FAKED. It was a different car, it was a planted good IMSB, then removed, etc.'
You can't ever win.

I believe this 1999 C4 with the unique interior color combo has been discussed on this forum prior
http://www.grautogallery.com/vehicle...-911-carrera-4
I've spoken to the sales manager and the prior offer from Norway fell through (who knows why). That said, the $19,900 price is pretty firm. Apparently, the car is on consignment and the seller won't budge, so price is fixed at this low.
I just had a local 2001 C2 fall through myself so now I'm back looking at this. Anyone feel as though the $19.9k price is justified? Any causes for concerns from pics or video? I'm remote (Boston) so I can't see it myself...a big leap of faith so opinions are appreciated... want to finalize a 996 shortly (moved and need a car for the commute)

I'd rather know that the IMSB is original and shows no signs...Priced lower and let me decide what to do with it. Was it pre-qualified before change and by who, with what?
That's just me...after hours, weeks and months of research...

R&R oil filter with LN full flow
R&R clean rads and condensers
R&R water pump, add 160F T-stat
R&R rear MM, get bushing for front MM
R&R belt with WP job
Flush and fill brake fluid
EDITED to add: Acid wash the underside of car, then flush with clear water.
Good side is it has a very nice detail job done. Paint, wheels and int look very nice. Plan on about $900 in materials to set up right, and maybe another $1200 for labor if you don't DIY. Your smile price would be $22k plus tax. Or, you could buy mine for less with all that done already.

Can we do this game that if you buy a car posted on here you have to offer a 6 pack of your favorite local beer to whomever posted the link?
Just an idea

I need to say something about IMS and RMS. These problems occur in a minority, small minority, of Porsches. The IMSB fails in less than 5%. That's 95% of cars from the period that won't have a problem.
In the 1980's everybody shunned the 1975 - 1977 911S cars because of "weak engines" and unspecified "engine problems" Now, they are priced like unobtainium.
I had a 97 Boxster, arguably the most likely to experience both problems. I drove it like I stole it; seriously seven or eight track days per year where the car was consistently taken to it's limits. I just kept pushing until the car, more likely the tires, couldn't handle it anymore. Never had a problem to 45K.
I then bought a 2002 Carrera and drove it a little softer to 60K, no problems.
I now drive a 2009 997.2 C4S and the worry du jour has not crept up yet.
In my mind, were I to buy another pre-09 Porsche susceptible to IMS and and / or RMS, based on my experience, and the actual experiences of others, I don't know that I would rush to implement a fix.
I did notice my concern level rising the more I read blogs where people fixated on the IMS. But, what's most interesting to me is that many people on the blogs who are so fixated, have never owned one of the "afflicted" Porsches, or even a Porsche at all.
Its is important to note that the Porsche IMSB failure rate is less than 5%. There are a whole lot of Porsches out there that have never experienced a failure.

2002 C4S
Grab a bargain; if you are going to buy a 996, several great cars have been posted here lately.

I've just learned from a used Porsche dealer that there is now an aftermarket warranty company that will take a 996 with over 150k miles and insure it up to 250k miles. I'll get the name and post it in the next 24 hours.

A VIN so I can check if it had an accident of any concern. Usually just light bumper accidents which wouldn't both me, until I went to sell it. I have a Boxster that go bumped, got a whole new oem bumper out of the deal...to me it was great...now not so sure since no one will buy it.
