Keep lookin! If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Not trying to be a downer, but I willing to bet this one may have some serious engine issues. The only way to minimize the "I-told-you-so" peeps, is to get an thorough PPI. All the best!

Yeah, and for good reason. Some m96s go a few hundred thousand miles before letting go, but many seem to die before 200k.

$23k is a lot for a 996 shell with a 130k m96 engine. $14k is more fair given the risk of engine failure*

Something you don't see everyday.

As battery technology matures, this could be a viable option in the next 10 years for 996 owners!

Thanks! There is a car for sale currently that has piqued my interest. I just need to move my current car first.

So as not to derail the thread - this isn't the color combo for me, but this car looks super clean, manual, low mileage, good price:

That's the deal you need snag! That 1999 has the endorsed by Slakker here on Rennlist;therefore, it's the ONLY 996 to buy! hahaha j/k

Seriously, the '99 model is the one you want if the original owner didn't swap out the IMS. Because the OEM bearing the most proven and durable with it's dual-row design. This car should give you many more years of joy.

I think this is a gem and if I had $17K sitting around, I'd jump on this deal.

Oh yea!

With the gray/black ends on the dash and the smaller tail pipes, that looks like one of the very early '99s, which Jake Raby always mentions as the 996 which is practically guaranteed to have a double row IMSB and also least prone to that failure.

Too bad it's not to your color taste. That's great mileage, too. Worth more of a look IMHO. If you go look at it, make note of the build date on the door sticker. Could be an early 1998 build date.

Yeah the shiny turbo look wheels on ettil's finally grew on me about the time we replaced them with the Carrea IIs, but I still wish I could convince her to put those wheels on it. The only better look, I think, is the dark blue MkI with those wheels and the aerokit.

If it wasn't for the transmission I might consider importing it as it's almost a twin of ettil's (black super full leather interior).

Thanks for the advice. Jaetee as well. IMO the dark blue paint and the chrome wheels make the car look a little dated, although I haven't seen the car in person. The wheels are easy enough to replace - the paint not so much. Besides, after many months of searching through ads I've commited to finding an early aero car. The ad TonyTwoBags posted is just more confirmation!

Sooooo anyone here want to help me out and buy a 2012 Mustang V6 Premium/Performance pack? Maybe for your kid/uncle/neighbor/dog?

So, new to this site but I am looking for a 996. Came across this one:

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/5864116850.html

Called about the salvage title, the guy says it is only due to the rear rim. Says he got the car that way. I suspect it hit a curb and bent the frame. So a no go, but very low miles and black on black.

Sub 35k on the clock and less than $13k firm?

A damaged rim will not total these cars. There is something seriously wrong with this picture or the seller is a complete idiot that knows nothing about 911s. Typically the idiots run high though as they don't understand the 996 stigma and just see a 911.

My vote is RUN from this car unless you can handle a giant mess.

Too bad on your color choice. This looks like a steal. I would opine that the black/gray/silver cars are going to lose most value over time. Just too many. The exotic colors(dark blue not really being exotic) are going to hold value better, just because they are more rare.
