Silly question... but what's the differences between a Boxster and 911...

I owned a boxster for 12 years bought it new, but it gets such a bad rap. I actually think it's probably the best porsche if you don't need rear seats. I currently own a TT as I wanted back seats, and the speed and neck snap it provides when the boost really kicks in is something else. I have also always wanted a 911 and how can you go wrong with the TT. The racing inspired gt1 motor that won lemans in 98.

I remember an episode of Top Gear several years back (maybe 2007 or so) and Jeremy Clarkson was reviewing the Cayman S.
He drew a chart that showed the current HP of the base engine 911, Cayman S and Boxster. I recall it was something like this (but don't hold me to the numbers):
911 325hp
Cayman S 285hp
Boxster 245hp
He said that the Porsche engineers knew what they were doing since the 3 models were exactly 40HP apart in HP. Although he loved the Cayman S, he went on to say he would never buy one. Why? Because he wouldn't want to be sitting at a light and have a 911 pull up and think, "I should have bought a 911".

Well... I've wanted a 911 since high school (mid 1990's). My friend's father owned a used Porsche dealership (Specialized Porsche, in Ft. Lauderdale). I used to "help out" at the dealership sometimes... I'd help sweep up or shuffle cars around the yard... or, on a few occasions... I'd go take a 911 to fill up the gas tank, or drop the car off at the body shop or detailer, etc... I fell in love with older 911's (my dream still is to buy a 1980s 911). For now, a 996 fits my life and budget better... but my dream is to someday find a perfect mid-80's 911... So, I'm sure a Boxster is a fun car, and I am thinking of a Cayenne as a 2nd vehicle... but there was never a doubt in my mind that my first Porsche would be a 911.

Although I love Top Gear, Clarkson is a mostly anti-Porsche twonk. Like a lot of his "reviews" for the past 4-5 seasons, Clarkson's films are more about giving him a chance to preen and drift $100,000 cars than to actually disseminate any useful info.
If you don't want a dedicated track weapon like an Exige or a x-bow, but you still want an awesome weekend racing fix, the Cayman (and to a lesser extent the Boxster, since it lacks a roof and the rigidity isn't as good) is a fantastic car.
Top Gear is fun to watch because they drop pianos on cars and blow **** up, but Jeremy's "reviews" are all but worthless.
Anyone who buys a 911 solely because the Cayman is cheaper is a douche nozzle.

I always dreamed of having a 911 not a Boxster. 996's are very well priced now and prefer the aesthetic as well as the history. I sold my 2003 996 Tiptronic with 54k miles and in perfect condition for $25,000, so they are within everyone's reach. Total tax and maintenance etc the car cost me $380 per month to drive said and done. I was sad when it sold in about 5 days to the first person who saw it. But turned the frown upside down when I got my 997.2 a week later.
