The very first reply answered your question, then you told us about a behavior (leaving lid open after spirited drives) which started a discussion. I tried to help -along with some others- by sharing that this is not the way the factory intended the engine bay temperature was to be controlled. You may do with that info as you please.

Not to hijack this, but... where can I get LED lights for the 996? Interior, etc...? Is ECS Tuning the only place?

I replaced my trunk and engine compartment bulbs with 39mm festoon bulbs (torpedo type) from www.Superlumination.com a few years ago for the same reason as others have mentioned -- low power drain in the event I leave the trunk or engine lid open.

nope. Those lights are never monitored by the car to begin with.

The trunk one is the most important one. I can't tell you how many times I burnt my head peaking under there. Just the cooler running temps of the led is worth it in this area. With that said, I plan on retrofitting an LED strip as the bulb itself isn't really that useful for when you really need it.
