I don't know...but I would doubt it.

Yes I realize this. It's a habit. The fan doesn't stay on forever and I'm bored so why not take an extra 4 seconds and pop the lid and let the heat out! These motors stay hot a long time!

I really don't understand this with modern synthetic oils and especially on a non-turbo car. But I guess whatever habits you have or works for you.

Just remember everytime you pop that hood, your shortening the life of your strut on your lid.

Wow. Right there and relatively obvious when you look for it. Kinda weak though so I can understand why I've missed it until now. Maybe I've never needed to go in there in the dark...

That fan blows cooler air down past the plastic expansion tank.

Wonder what difference the effect of having the fan bringing the cooler air in past the tank displacing the trapped hot air out over the left side exhaust is vs hot air rising past the tank out through the open lid?
Fan still runs even with lid open. Sensor is between the intake runners on top of the engine, bank 2.

Well, I stopped drinking 7 years ago, quit smoking 3 years ago, and I have to obsess about something!

I had a look for it this afternoon and looked all after the sodding engine bay and couldn't find it. Now it is dark and I'm going to go and look for the bloody thing.

Of course, Thanks Ahasi. That is the one that gets knocked loose out of it's grommet sometimes.

This has been answered already but just for clarity the temp sensor for the fan is located between intake runners on passenger side, it will run regardless of lid position.

The fan is meant to push air down when engine bay temperatures are high, the idea is to keep all the sensors/wiring harnesses/switches/hoses, etc. cool and not let the naturally rising heat to bake everything. The fan should also cool things down much faster than leaving the hood open. -As a side note, the spoiler should have rubber bellows under it and a rather small opening. I could see this being incrementally helpful but why bother, let it do it’s thing as intended...

I love these threads. My only question was...if I unplug the light does the fan not work. Lol.
