Default Is it my key that isn't working?

Hi, all. I recently purchased a 2000 C2, and the remote entry key wasn't working. I can press the button on the key and the red light comes on, but nothing happens at the car. Is there some way to tell whether it's the car or the key? I'd hate to spend $300 on a new key only to find that it doesn't work either.

Also, as far as the key is concerned, what all does the one button key do? I know it unlocks the doors, but can it open the trunk with two presses or a long press, etc.? Just curious as mine has never worked.

Lastly--might be something good to know. Sometimes when I'm driving in a curve, etc., the door lock light comes on. Is there maybe something loose in my lock mechanism? If so, could that be affecting the remote entry?

Hi,

I just had the same problem.

Here's a link to the thread, with all the info you need regarding the key/remote.

Thanks!!!! I'll try the reset and see if it works for me. As far as the remote goes, is there any way to be *sure* it is the key? I only have the one key, and since it's never worked I wonder if it's the receiver on the car's end or something. I did notice people asking if the car would start without the remote working... does the fob send out some signal to the car letting it know it's a legit key (and thus would let me know the car's receiver is working).

Would still like to know what all the one button on the 2000 C2 key can do--just unlock doors?

The button should open the doors and the trunk (at least on an '03 C2). That's about it.

I don't think there's any way to know 100% for sure if it's just the key fob, but based on what I have read when researching my issue, I would bet that it is.
