No different than any other car. The IMS solutions are not pushed as much as they are in NA. I went to a number of Events with Porsche Poland and no one mentioned IMS once. Plenty of Parts on Allegro and tellia.pl new and used.

Just buy from a German lady, only driven to church on Sundays. There are lots of those apparently. Just ask them not to move the odometer back. You actually want around 7-10k a year real usage.

wucash- you are really right in things You said about granny driver, or old couple from Germany on retiremant. Yes its sad but its true. Basicly, its hard to find good one in Poland, around 16,000$ is big gamble, about 25,000 is more cars to choose, but its not always mean those cars are better, just because of the price. I think im going too look at the one between 18,000$-20,000$ and i will leave some cash in my pocket just in case if anything goes wrong and for "Starting Kit" of course.

Bring a friend with a level head so that he can stop you from buying a questionable 996.

Make sure everything works!
Check the oil for milky color.
Check coolant for oil .

Buy Durametric tool.

vu.q.le - Thank You for support. Yes i will check if everything works. About IMS or cylinder cracks, is there any chance to check condition before i buy? (without taking engine apart) Missfire it's not always caused by cylinder crack. It can be coil or cables.

I'm not qualified to answer regarding IMS or cylinder.

Forgot to also include taking the vehicle to freeway speed to test wheel balance.

Checking IMS is about 6-8 hour job. As you need to remove transmission, its just a car., how do you check for IMS and cracked cylinder in LPG Golf III parked outside your local fire station hall (remiza) ? If you are worrying about IMS and cracked cylinders this much at this stage I have good advice for you... move on and buy a Benz.. as you know "bez gwiady nie ma jazdy", or cinquecento with the Dutch LPG option, don't forget to add the exclusive Floor Mats from tesco.

wucash, i thought that's why the forum is made for, for asking a question. In this stage, ims and engine crack is one of the biggest suffer of M96, so this is the reason why i asked a question about this failures. If you think Only People from London Ontario are worth to drive Sports Car, and anybody else are Worthless loosers who can only afford gadgets from tesco- from this point of view i need to tell You: You need a help mate.

Like I said before.. its just a car.. relax... don't fall into the your Porsche will die as it IMS will explode and your cylinders are scorned just because(not sure where did this come from, is this the new ims?) crowd, that was my advice as much as I went around getting it across with jabs at realities of living in your country.

Very few cars in Poland will have IMS done, I went through the process 3 years ago. So no receipts for that. Not sure about your scorned cylinder issue, first I heard. If you want your IMS done the part is $650 USD + $180 tool plus 8 hours of labor. Change clutch and AOS at that time. So about 2000 USD in parts.

Maybe the points here were (a) don't fall in love with a car before it's checked out, and (b) you're not going to be able to diagnose every potential problem. If the oil wasn't recently changed, have your mechanic pull the oil filter during the inspection. It'll cost you a new filter and half a quart of oil, but you'll be able to check for the telltale metallic flakes that are often indicative of the IMS bearing race being chewed up and distributed throughout the engine.

If you find a car that you BELIEVE is in solid shape, you acquire it and then do everything you can to ensure that it lives as long as possible. That's about all you CAN do when you're relying on a seller's honesty and the cursory glimpse into the car's health that a PPI provides.
