996 "race car" for sale... anyone have any info on this car?
This is for sale local to me, and I know the price might be a little high for a track prepped C2, but I was hoping maybe the previous owner was hanging around in here, and could tell me a little more about it.
Everyone else, thoughts, comments, concerns? Could make for a very fun weekend car.

If you mean a weekend at the track, could be fun (though the C4 chassis is better IMO). I think the straight through exhaust is probably a bit hardcore for a weekend cruiser...along with the plastic window, it's gonna be ungodly loud.

That car looks awesome. It looks well prepped and priced right (if the title is clean) as seen from the pics. I wish I had seen something like this in January when I bought my 996 to prep for the track...

I don't know the car but the price doesn't seem too far off given the upgrades:
new engine, cage, motons and brakes. It would make a really nice DE car.
With the cage, suspension and exhaust it will be near impossible to drive it on the street.
Keep in mind if you ever want to race it in PCA you would need to replace the brakes and the lexan rear window to run in a stock class, it's not going to be competitive in any other class.
It was really nice they kept the cup holders.

If your end goal is to have a car like this, it could be worthwhile to start off with something like this and save on time/labor/$ in the long run.
I would just make sure the engine is "new" and not rebuilt and from the factory with paperwork as you may get the 2yr warranty with it. You'll also want to know if the new engine is the older smaller IMS style or later larger IMS version just so you know what you have.
IMO, it's not truly track ready unless it has some reinforcement for the oiling system such as accusump, internal baffle upgrade, deep sump, possibly oil filter conversion, third radiator, upgraded brake ducts(cheap investment), and the required fluids. Of course how deep you get into these reinforcements are partially determined on your driving skill, tire rubber compound, type of tracks, etc.
My $.02

^^ What he said, with one more caveat. Does your local track have noise restrictions? The "full open exhaust," depending on what that means, may need to be addressed so you don't get busted by the db meter.

That is one weird car. It's had its door bars cut out of the cage on the driver's side, so that isn't actually a valid cage anymore, anyway. I wonder if it has a horn? That steering wheel quick release is the same one that they put in the Cayman Interseries cars.

Boo. I just noticed that looking at the pics from a desktop monitor. At first i thought he had the breakaway bar on there. There's no way they can market that as a true track vehicle now. Wonder if the dealership did that? And it looked to be a fast crude job as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer said 'this thing is impossible to get into' with the door bar and did that. The cage is pretty much ruined - you can't just add that bar back in. It's a shame because the rest of it is really well done.
