Default Air temp sensor

I heard somewhere that the dealer can turn on the air temp readout on a 996 that does not currently have it. Anyone know about this?

Thanks

A quick push of a button on a PST (Porsche System Tool) will do it.

silver996 -- Yes. Once this is on you can add the fourth steering wheel stalk and get full computer function.

Moogle -- The PST2 programs all the computer systems in the car from engine DME to ABS Brakes to Instrument Cluster to PSM to PCM to Alarm to Sound System Options. All this for only $8000 (to independent shops) and $2500/year to update the software. Oh yeah, some operations still require permission and/or reporting to PCNA.

Just let me know if you want to buy one for me

all cars come prewired, just as all cars come with the external temperature probe.

Uh... no, any car can have this added.. You can do it with a dash switch or a stalk. You do need to add one wire. If you want to do it tell me which way you prefer and I will send you detailed instructions.

You can download a pictorial instruction here: OBC Stalk Install
Porsche no longer sells the the 4 arm stalk version with the gloss finish so the newer part has the matte finish of the newer cars. The 4 arm stalk is part number 996 613 219 10 EWC. You will need to transfer the 3 other stalk caps (covers) from your old (gloss finish) stalk and buy the computer cap 996 613 503 01 A01 (gloss black) to replace the matte finish one that comes with he new stalk.
Good Luck!

Great instructions Loren!

Is the dash button install easier? If so, can you forward those instructions as well? Also, I haven't had the OBC activated yet, should I expect the dealer to do it without any hassles?

These were original done for the Boxster but the only difference is the that Carrera's have 5 gauges instead of 3. Color code may also very by MY.
