Default New tire recommendations

My tired are shot on my 2005 C4S.

Im looking for recommendations; this is my daily driver car ... and it also does some track time as well.

My local shop recommends Hankook tires.

What do you guys think?

The most expensive or what?.... I have Hankooks V12 on mine. No complaints. I dont track mine but if I did I would go for the Best not the cheapest. Something like pirelli (if thats how it's spelt)

You'll get lots of opinions on this one.

I've used expensive N-spec tires on my C4S, and I've used cheap tires like Hankooks and Sumitomos. I will never buy Hankooks or Sumitomos again. My experience was bad with both of these choices. I will also never buy Pirelli P Zeros again. I've been through two sets of those and they become horribly noisy after 5K miles or so.

I know they are expensive, but I simply haven't found a tire that I like as much as the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. It provides the best grip, it's quiet through it's usable life and it's readily available in the proper sizes.

If the Michelin Pilot Super Sport was available in the proper sizes for my C4S, I might give that a try.

I'm a big fan of my Michelin Pilot Super Sport's N3 (fronts are N6, just replaced the N3..ie rears). Good grip and they look great. We've had a lot of rain here in SE Michigan lately and I haven't felt concerned at all.

A set of 4 is just over a grand installed at my local Discount tire. I hear the MPilot SS are the replacement for PS2's. What is the difference between the N #'s is lower better, is it a manufactured date, size groups? It is just very odd one is N3 and the other is N6, but they look and feel identical.

N-spec rating are for tires that have been tested and approved by Porsche for their cars. The first tire in the series is N0, and the number goes up as new versions of the tire are released.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport hasn't been N-rated by Porsche yet, so that's something else that you're seeing on the tire.

I've also heard that the Super Sport is the replacement for the PS2, but it hasn't happened yet.

The Pirellis that came on my CPO'd car were horribly noisy.

Have had Toyos on for about 6 months now and really like them, especially for the price. Pretty quiet and good grip.

I'm going to say no to the Hankook Ventus V12 tires. I have them on my car. They are okay when new, but when they wear down, hey get noisy and start to tram line. I personally don't think they grip THAT well, but in the rain they are good.

Charlie has convinced me to pick up a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I'm just trying to destroy these tires first!

I'm trying Potenza RE760 Sports. Ultra High Performance Summer tire with long treadwear. So far I'm getting sharp lane and directional changes and excellent with traction in wet and dry. Quiet and smooth. Asymmetric tread patterns looks aggressive. About $1k for both front and rear set. 340 A A load ratings. Speed rated to 168 mph.

Liked Conti Sport Contact 2s but hate my current Conti DWs. Everyone I know with SuperSports really likes them.

N spec tires are engineered in part to compensate for the peculiar rear weight bias of the 911... Porsche oversells the concept,, suggesting them for Cayennes, etc.. But the concept does have relevance for our cars.

I love the Michelin Pilot Super Sports as well. Put them on both of my cars. I could not recommend a better tire for the Porsche. Wear is excellent and they just seem right for the car. My two cents...
