Are you looking for the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2? It was once a great choice for the performance enthusiast seeking maximum handling and grip. In fact, for nearly a decade, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 was one of the top Max Performance Summer tires that money could buy. However, a couple years ago, Michelin discontinued this tire in most sizes and replaced the tire with their new flagship performance tire, the Pilot Super Sport.
The Stuttgart carmaker has developed a new tire for the Carrera GT in partnership with tire manufacturer Michelin. Replacing the current Pilot Sport PS2 tire which is going out of production is the latest generation Pilot Super Sport.
The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is designed for high performance cars or normal cars that have been severely tinkered. Bibendum’s idea was to create a tyre which would succeed the Pilot Super Sport PS2 but would also be as fast as the Pilot Sport Cup but with added extreme weather performance. Basically, it wants to be a decent all round road tyre but with capable track performance. It sounded too good to be true, but after some thorough testing on the track, in both wet and dry conditions, I can safely say that this tyre does tick all the boxes.
No hostility, but the opinions that you are putting over as fact are not necessarily fact.
Could you be more specific? I don't follow. The PSS is NOT a replacement for the PS2, it's an extension of the Michelin product line.
???
Somewhere around 2:40 of the video posted above, Steve Dolby (Michelin product manager) explains that the Pilot Sport 2 has been replaced by two tires -- the Pilot Sport 3 for smaller cars like the Mini or Golf, and the Pilot Super Sport for cars like the 911. Later in the video he refers to the PS2 as the Pilot Super Sport's predecessor.
He also explains that the PSS is undergoing Porsche's homologation process and is not yet N-rated ... suggesting that it may be at some point.
Liked Conti Sport Contact 2s but hate my current Conti DWs. Everyone I know with SuperSports really likes them.
N spec tires are engineered in part to compensate for the peculiar rear weight bias of the 911... Porsche oversells the concept,, suggesting them for Cayennes, etc.. But the concept does have relevance for our cars.
I would agree with your statement. I fitted a pair of Ventus V12 Evo on my Targa a week ago, and the result is less than adequate, with a floatiness in the handling, and parasitic steering behaviour in long fast curves. Seems to be due to softer tyre walls. I'm really thinking about taking them off and going back to N rated tyres.

Done, I ordered 2 off Conti CSC2 N2 that match my front tyres. The Ventus V12, although they perform extraordinary well on my MX-5 and my track-day car (RX-8), are borderline dangerous on my 996.
They should work better on a 986 I think, as they don"t have as much weight on the rear wheels.
In the video, the spider chart shows better performance in various criteria that's equivalent or better than PS2. If they had 285 or 295 30ZR18's for my rears, I would have switched right away since my tires are due for change.
Need Help: I just bought my car and it came with General tires. Fronts are OK, but the rears are due. I know this one shop that has 2 Generals in my size (285/30ZR18). Should I get those in the mean time while I wait for the Michelin Super Sports to become available in my tire size or should I just change all 4? PS2 are pricy though!
The overall wheel diameter variance is way too much though compared to the stock/base size 255/40ZR17s. It may impact the drivetrain.
How, exactly? Show me drivetrain or abs failure threads. They don't exist.
I love when people parrot back the common dealer/interweb "wisdom" with no BTDT.
The worst thing that happens is your speedo is off a bit. This used to happen in the Audi world too. People used to freak out on non-stock tire sizes with quattro. Turns out, it's no big deal.
I just replaced my Michelin Pilot super sports with new ones great tires. I ran the last set nearly bald just ramping on them and even with very little tread they were still amazing in heavy rain.
funny thread, the original post is almost like hes baiting everyone,if he is familiar with rennlist,he is aware this tire topic always gets a little out of control, mostly funny and entertaining, alot of opinons all make sense to some degree, my personal experience is with michelin ps2,and currently bridgestone so2a both n rated and yes a little more expensive, but IMO worth it.......good luck in your choice.
