Default I Bought Ed Neman's X51 Race Car...

Ed is a long time RL member from back in 02'. He was bumped off track about 3 years ago suffering some minor rear end damage and hasn't posted or repaired the car since. He finally decided to sell and I was lucky enough to buy it. Ed's the original owner of this 03' sunroof delete 996 with the X51 option. It shipped from NY today so I'll have it in 10 days or so. I hope to have it running within a month...

Sunroof delete X51? Hell yes! That's about as close as you can get to a GT3 without actually buying a GT3. Good find!

The price was attractive, but the state of the wiring in the cabin was daunting.

Will you be doing the refurb work yourself?

Very nice! what is the significance of the sunroof delete vs a regular coupe? Is it a weight thing?

Mostly a weight thing for most people (the sunroof and associated hardware weighs about 40 pounds). For me, it's a headroom thing because I'm 6'4".

Congrats!

Didn't your motor blow recently?

You don't need a rear bumper anyways if you're fast and don't have amateurs following you. Track marshals and tech inspections are another story though...

I have a electrical genius friend who's very competent with paring down P-car harnesses and has done 5-6 996' including my 99' (see photo). We took about 40lbs of wiring, and another 20lbs of leather dash and gauge cluster out of my car and will do the same with this car....

Good luck, your bid trumped mine on it. It looked like a great car and with some work it will be very competitive. Keep us posted on the build out

I expected it to go higher maybe into the 20's. I suspect the wiring scared off many buyers. It's going to take some serious work but we'll get it running....
