Talking Just finished the third radiator install...

What a bitch. It was a hell of a job in the heat of my Houston garage, mucho thanks to Loren for his DIY site.

What does the 3rd rad buy you. My car hovers around 180-200 degrees--even in the slowest traffic on a 90+ degree day. Do you notice a significant drop in temps under these conditions?

I have the 3rd radiator 'cause I've got a TipS, and the needle barely gets past the 180 mark around town on a hot (mid 80's) day..at least hot for the Cape.

The third radiator is supposed to drop temps 10-20 degrees when running hard. I don't think there is a difference on day to day use. I've only had it running for a couple of days, so I can't really make any informed comments yet.

Boy oh boy DJ ... I could not agree more!! I came away from the job bathed in anti-freeze and sporting 5 or 6 cuts to the hands here and there.

But my 99 is now running much cooler. Sorry, no hard numbers, but the needle use to go well past the 0 in 180 and now never budges past the 8 in 180 ... even at the track on a hot day with AC on or off.

Lorens DIY site is great! {even better if you actually read them carefully ... unlike me ... DOH!}

Did you find the driver side small hose too long? No matter how I tried to route the hose I couldn't get it to lie correctly without kinking. I ended up trimming about 3" off. Hope I didn't F---- it up!

No, I didn't have that problem. But who knows if I routed it correctly?! ... If I have the nose off of it again in the near future, I'll take a picture of it {the part that you can still see} and post here.

The car seems to be running much cooler now. Tonite on the way home ,in 96 degree heat , never went past the "8", hope it stays like this. I was a little concerned at first as it seemed to warm up pretty fast to 180 plus (past the "0") since the install. Perhaps this represented an air lock in the system? I've kept the bleeder valve open for a few days. i may still take it in next week and see if it needs to be checked out or flushed with their special tools...

The 3rd radiator made a HUGE difference for me at the track. I would often have to cut a run session short during the summer due to the Texas heat which can get to 100-105. My car would peg the 250 mark so I'd pull off and do a cool down run.

Now that I've installed the radiator the temperature guage needle never gets past the '0' of '180' no matter how hot and how hard I push the car.

As others have said though it makes no difference on regular street driving.

Yikes! I think you may have the hose installed incorrectly. I had the same problem when first installing the hose until I realized it should be routed behind a hose/bar (can't recall) and not infront of it. I pulled it completely out, re-routed it, and it fit perfectly. Well, that is after I fixed the way I attached the mounting brackets of the radiator.

I probably wont matter that you installed it the way you did as long as there aren't any areas that may rub the hose.

Good luck!

I agree with Bart... I hope your hose isn't kinked and not letting full flow go through?? A new hose is relatively inexpensive compared with the time to remove the bumper (again) and reinstall.

Default That's what I was afraid of...

I'm just going to bite the bullet and get another driver side (left side intake) hose. Loren, can you confirm the part number for me, I have
996-106-665-55. Even though the car seems to be running fine now, I don't want to take a chance.

Good point. I have a 2-day track event at Fontana in two weeks, it should get hot, we'll see what happens. based on your experience, i'll probably need to do the 3rd radiator.

Doug,

Yes that is the correct part number for the drivers side hose.
Like Bart says it curls back just as it is shaped.

Old hose left -- new hose right
