Default Steering wheel options?

I'm getting closer and closer to getting my 911 and I have a question regarding the 996...

The two that I've test driven have had steering wheels that would move closer or farther away from me but not up and down.

I know there's a term for this and I feel like an idiot that I can't remember what it is... but was there an "option" for the 996 to get a steering wheel that will move up and down as well?

It sounds crazy I know but it's something important to me and it's forced me to start looking mostly at 997 even though the 996 is much closer to what I want to spend.

Thanks in advance!

Telescoping is the kind that you can pull/push away from you.

The kind that also goes up and down is tilt & telescoping.

As far as I know, the 996 wheels only telescope.

Thank you. That's what I thought

As said, steering wheel telescopes. But since the seat moves up/down, back/forth and tilts, it is very easy to find your sweet driving spot. I use the seat memory buttons to retain my settings for (1) relaxed long drive (2) crappy city driving (3) aggressive sporty driving. Albeit small deviations, but works for me.

THANK YOU.

Wow. It's so funny to me all the things I don't consider with "luxury" cars. I've been driving a Jetta for years now and the idea of not only power seats but memory positions is something I hadn't even thought about.

That does very much assist me here... you may have just enabled me to buy a 996!!!!

Go ahead with a 996 Targa, I was reading your thread in the 997 forum. Less than 3% of 996 production were Targas. Find yours with full leather and the Power Seat Package.

I searched for a year for my Targa beginning in 2006 and wanted one in a light color to show off the black roof line and an unusual interior. My research shows that only 1% of the '03 Targas were made with the Boxter Red leather.

Beautiful car! Thank you for the input.

I'll need to drive another 996 so I can attempt to get the seat position where I want. I'm a fairly "needy" driver when it comes to this because I like to be as close to everything as possible.

To give perspective, i'm 5'10 my girlfriend is like 5'5 and we use a similar configuration because I like to sit so close.

I appreciate the opinions!

I do this, too. I find that I prefer the seating position of the GT3 buckets because you sit a little lower and slightly more upright (mine are pictured below, just to add to the Boxster Red interior photos!)

My car is for sale, in fact, but I won't post a link here. PM me if interested.

I love everything about your car but unfortunately I am looking for a 4. I live in CT and this will be my daily driver... I live on some pretty serious back roads with all kinds of curves/hills/dangers and i'll feel much better with AWD.

I appreciate the mention

Of course! See if you can find a pair of these seats to try out -- they're my favourite part of the car.
