I know I am missing something here but what?? yah one more thing the cruise control light don't come on when I trigger it to go on , but it comes on before the car start. Is it the stack going bad?? Mine has similar issues. The dealer diagnosed it as a bad stalk . $680 to replace. I am living with it.

Check the clutch switch also. There are two. One to sense clutch depressed all of the way for starting the car. And one for disengaging the speed control as you start to press the clutch to keep the engine from revving. When the clutch helper spring is broken or removed there is often enough loose play in the pedal to deactivate the cruise.

Yeah, I figured that was parts and labor. I will definitely DIY it at some point.

Yes, check this out. I'll second fpb's guess.

After I did my clutch-mod, I had the exact same behavior that OP described. CC light on before the start, and then it wouldn't work once I was under way. I think that there's a timeout where if the clutch switch isn't closed for a while after start, the CC disables itself, even to the point that the CC light doesn't come on again.

My fix was to take two pieces of vacuum hose, maybe 1/2" OD, and about 3/4" long. I put a small zip tie through one, and then through the clutch. Thoughtfully, there's a hole already in the clutch right where it should press up against the CC clutch switch. Then, take the other piece of hose and zip tie it to the previous hose.

It's now working 100% of the time.

Be sure you have the correct, factory, tail/stop light bulbs including the high mount.

An open, or high resistance, stop light circuit will prevent the CC from engaging, common problem with LL, Long Life, bulbs, and most certainly so with LED bulbs.

Default Pictures of Cruise Control + Zip Tie + Rubber Tubing hack

Here are two pictures of my setup. As I said, this is working for me 100% now. Cruise control comes on reliably.

What this hack does makes sure that the clutch pedal, upon release, makes contact with the clutch pedal sensor so that your cruise control will work.

I did not invent this hack, another board member did, but in order to make it work, I used two pieces of tubing and two zip ties.

Parts needed:
  • 7/8 OD vacuum tube hose (rubber). Two pieces, about 3/4" to 1" long.
  • Two small zip ties.

Steps:
  1. Put your head and arms under the dash and locate (by feel or by sight) the part of the clutch pedal that is designed to press into the switch.
  2. Locate the hole on the clutch pedal. It's already there, right about where the switch is, but this is the hole that you're going to be threading the zip tie through.
  3. Thread the a small zip tie through the hole, and then thread it through the small piece of vacuum hose. Cinch it tight.
  4. Thread another zip tie through the just-installed piece of tubing and then thread another piece of tubing to it so that it runs parallel to the original. Cinch that tight.

I hope that the pictures attached help with this process. It's pretty simple and straight-forward, but please feel free to IM me if you get stuck.

The first photo is from straight down under and only shows one of the pieces of tubing. The second photo is a bit blurry, the focus is off, but you can see the two pieces of tubing along with the two differently colored zip ties.
