Fixed It For You. Usually look for the word/s in bold.

lvc2 I can vouch for Jason over at 9XX Motors. He is quite a knowledgeable guy on the water cooled m96/m97 motors and offers options to go from 3.4 to 3.6 or 3.6 to 3.8 Hands down $7,500 to rebuild a engine on a 20-30k car is more justifiable that a 20k rebuild that cost almost as much as the car is worth in good running condition.

Now for a race/track reliable engine 20k plus is what is expected. My M96 build is taking my '00 3.4 out to a 3.8l with a reinforced semi-closed deck unlike the factory designed open deck. custom piston, pauter rods and a whole lot more. But my engine builder is still Jason over at 9xx Motors !!

good luck on which ever choice you decide and feel free to PM me if you have any question on my personal experience with Jason at 9xx Motors.

Thanks for info. I was very lucky. Thanks to this forum I had had
the shop pull the belt and it was a frozen alternator. If that engine ever goes it is nice to know I have a viable alternative. I do have LN bearing and I change the oil every 5,000 miles. Runs great. What a great car.

I had two scored pistons 5-6 and opted to send my parts to LN Engineering and had it resleaved to match new JE 101mm aluminum forged balanced pistons. So, it is now a 4.0

I was charged an extra $4500 ish on top of Jason's fees for the machine work at LN. I added a few extras also, lower temp thermostat 165 degree. Larger bearings etc. I'm sure you could go crazy with light weight parts if you wanted. lol

I have an ECU tune, Fabspeed exhaust.

9xx motors is in Long Beach. I would totally trust him rebuilding my car. I had such a good experience I thought about picking up another used 911 cab with a blow engine just as a toy.
What was the final cost?

I had my motor rebuilt by Jason at 9XX Motors, he is very honest and straight forward. So far so good my car is running very well.

I have a full rebuild thread done at his shop.... link below.

I spent a lot of time with Jason this week when I stopped by his shop. Shop is nice size and there were about 5 cars in there. He is a young guy with a lot of knowlege. He has the materials and tools to measure ovality, can customize your project. I like he is small, personable and knowledgeable. He is not trying to take all your money but give you a fair price for a great service. I am seriously considering him for my project.

Outstanding. Nice to see more and more competent rebuilders for these engines. On the west coast too...

I can vouch for Jason at 9XX motors. I have just reached 3000 miles after his rebuild and I have no issues.
