You didn't mention that if they could "turn it 1/2 way" they were probably turning it backwards to get the alternator sprag clutch to release and then turning it forward until it caught and stopped the engine again.

I wonder his many IMS "failures" were miss diagnosed with this issue?

Not all engines have spray clutch equipped alternators…

Drove it home. Runs great. I was thinking of another car but one short trip and I am hooked again. What an amazing combination of handling, power and comfort. Tough to beat for the price.
