Default Gaurds Red paint code

I am getting conflicting info as to the proper paint code. I am trying to get a scratch fixed on my bumper and my body shop uses PPG. Does anyone know the correct code? I looked on my hood sticker but the code there doesn't match the book. Thanks in a dvance.

Be careful AND observant. Have the shop do a sprayout to test the formula before they paint anything on the car.

80K and 84A are both Guards Red. In addition there are variants of the exact same formula on cars that you could only see if the cars were side by side. Speed Yellow has the same problem - at least 3 variants of the same formula.

Just have them do the test first.

80K is conventional paint and
84A is water based paint

Bruce,

Is your car Guards red? If so, just look inside the trunk for the paint code sticker.

Thanks everybody. Yeah, it says 84a on the sticker and 80k in the ppg book with a different name for the paint. I can't remember what the name was but it is not one I am familiar with from the Porsche pallet. The painter is going to do a sprayout to check the match. I hope he can get it right cause I don't like two tone.

Like everyone has said it is the paint code that matters. In my younger days I painted a few cars and a motorcycle. The same color paint can be used by different companies but each gives it their own name.

If my failing memory is correct Porsche had a jungle green for the Boxster. Then it got changed to rain forrest green or it was still called jungle green outside the US. Same color with a more politically correct different name. Jeff

The 'name' used is often Indischrot, or something like that. In Porsche-speak, they call it India Red. Not sure why the world calls it Guards, but that is the same color in the database info.

Yup. Indischrot-India. That's what it says. Thanks. My painter is getting nervous over the match. Yahoo.
