Default Missing glove box

Hello all,

My bro-in-law recently purchased an '01 C2. Very good condition, 40k on clock, Silver w/ bark blue int. First time in car, I noticed no glove box! I assumed it was a option to delete for some reason, or did it have to do w/ the passenger air bag, etc.?

99-01 has the crappy user guide holder under the steering wheel. The door cubbies and the center console are the only available cabin storage. Well, that and whatever you chuck into the back seat.

Whatever, it's the uber-rare 996 LTW glovebox delete option! Just like the 1973 2.7 Carrera RS.

Nice looking Targa!
By the way, if your brother-in-law was also surprised by the lack of a glove box, you might want to point him Rennlist way. There are a few other surprises about the 996 that he needs to educate himself about with his new car. A little bit of prevention now could save him a lot of grief later.

Thanks all above and kcattorney. I did mention it to him, but he's not a "forum" guy. What are you referring to, I will relay to him?

He's referring to the modes of engine failure that will keep him up nights. Unless the car represents the investment of his life savings let the poor guy live in blissful ignorance.

I'm not up on the engine issues, but I am on the dreaded IMS failure? I already made him aware of the 996's issues w/ that. I also told him that my friend's IMS failed on his '03 C4S, after 30k on the clock! He took his chances, because the 996 is obviously the most affordable water cooled Carrera, and he did buy from a very reputable place. At this point, what's the sense in worrying him further, unless there are some warning signs her should always be on the lookout for.

Don't let forum fear mongering ruin his enjoyment of the car.

If he takes his car to a good independent shop for regular service, that is probably the best he can do without involving himself in the issues. Said shop needs to be experienced in M96 engined cars (the 996 models) and they should know that they are to be watching for any of the usual signs of engine failure. Oil changes at 5000 miles and 1 year max would be preferable to following Porsche's longer intervals.
