Default Oil Choice

Recently acquired a '03 C4S from South Carolina. The owner there was running Mobil 1 0W-40.

Now that it is in Pennsylvania with more significant cold weather, should I be changing the choice of oil. And it is necessary enough to do another oil change. Last one was 1000 miles ago.

0W-40 is Porsche recommended oil. You should be good to go.

You are fine as-is. 0w40 is already the thinnest oil at cold temperature, so it is perfect for you. Here is the oil viscosities chart.

0W-40 should be fine for the winter. Summer you may want to move to 5W-40/5W-50. When I switched to 5W-40 in July, I notice a good decrease in oil consumption.

Congrats on the new acquisition. I live in the great Northeast and using 0w40; dealer recommended and that works for me. With that said I won't drive the car much in the cold weather once it snows and they salt the roads. However, the car and the 0w40 felt great this morning at 30 degrees!

I saw this today and figured there would be an active oil thread to post it in.
For me, I may switch oil at some point, but so far I've used Mobil 1 0W-40 and change the oil 2x a year. There may be better choices, but I figure factory fill and recommendation can't be a bad choice. Plus it's readily available, and not terribly expensive. I've read high ZDDP content may harm the cats, I don't know what the optimum level is.

edit: embed doesn't seem to be working

I use Castrol 5W-50 in my '03 C4S based on some viscosity breakdown info I'd read at the L N site. It's a summer car.

Mine is going to be a year-round car so lower viscosity will do well with the winter temps.

Motul X-cess 8100, 5W-40. Try Amazon and look for the five-liter, four pack.
