Miles per tank?

Guys,
I know it is high performance. I know it is going to burn gas.....I only ask the question because I am getting so far below what Porsche says I should get in town....I just want to know if something is wrong with my car. I don't want be bathing the cylinder walls in unburned fuel.
If everyone else was getting 14-16 miles per gallon in town.....I would just accept the fact that Porsche, like most manufacturers, publishes numbers better than reality.

You paid a lot of money for a high performance sports car, presumably because of the high performance part; that performance is worthless if you don't take advantage of it. If mpg is your priority, you bought the wrong car.
If you're getting more than 20mpg out of your 996, you're driving it all wrong.

A non-GT2/3/turbo 996 is not a high performance sports car. It's a good GT car, not a pure track-rat. So MPG matters.
In general, people who own and drive their cars frequently do care about mpg. When I first picked up my Murci and found out that it would get 10mpg highway, I was irritated because my Viper would net nearly triple the mpg, and even my H1 would get better mpg (sold both for Lambo). It didn't stop me from putting a ton of miles on the car, but I did notice the fuel bills and I would find myself driving the 996 on long drives over the Lambo.

I have had my 996 for about 15k miles and it has never once gone under 20mpg no matter how I drive it. The best I ever got was just under 27 mpg.
It is really rare to see the low fuel light come on with less than 300 miles on the tank.
I usually look for gas without ethanol in it. Not sure if that makes a big difference or not.

Agree with sjfehr! The vast majority of my driving is in town. I have a Tip and drive it 100% in manual mode. I average about 13.5 mpg.
If I was concerned about mileage and my kids were old enough to sit in the front, I'd sell the 996 and buy the new Corvette which gets 29 mpg on the highway in econ mode. ;-)

but my last tank was roughly 18 mpg with the 50/50 mix of interstate and stoplight-intensive city streets. Mostly no shifting below 3000 rpm's and several forays above 5000 during each drive.
