Is there a DIY for the tiptronic rear diff fluid change? I wanted to change mine this weekend as there was no explicit record of the fluid change in the maintenance history.
I searched here, but could not find one.
I read somewhere (can't find where now
)that tiptronic differential has only one plug- fill plug. And you have to suck out the fluid from that plug and then re-fill it. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks.

It should save you over $600. Here is the link to Renntech:

You will need a temperature probe and need to fashion the filling device. I am in California and can loan you both if you are nearby.

I am looking to change only the oil in the differential. Tiptronic cars have a differential that is separate from the transmission, it takes about 1.32 quarts of the gear oil.
Manual 996 cars have differential integrated in the transmission. Tiptronics have the tranny and differential as separate units.

I found the link to the older post on the renntech about this. Here it is for the future forum searchers. PDF with the DIY is also attached.

Important information from user 'Gator': If you get under the car. Looking at the transmission from the drivers side. The differential is the housing that is between the transmission and the drivers side rear wheel drive shaft. The differential housing is round, about 12 inches in diameter. If you look at the 9 o'clock area of the face of the housing, you'll see a plug with an allen head cut into it. That is the fill plug for your differential. There is no drain plug. You change the fluid by sucking it out and then refilling it.

Sorry I misread your post, but glad you could find the correct procedure.

60k miles is recommended. If you don't track the car often and don't drive it very hard, 60k is fine. If you beat on the car I would change it every 30k miles. It is a fairly cheap procedure.
