FRONT LID WON'T OPEN
04 996 C2, Manual. My battery is fine, I just drove to the store, put the packages in the front, got home, and I can't open the lid. I've read the little "self help" book (pictures) behind the fuse cover and followed the directions and it still doesn't work. The back lid (engine cover) works fine. I've read what I can find on other posts, but I need your help now. Thanks.

Do you hear the latch mechanism when you push the switch?
There's a release cable for the frunk, but it's a bit of a pain to get to. It's located up under the wheel housing liner. You'll probably need to take off the tire to get to it.

One of your packages may be keeping upward pressure on the lid (and latch) preventing it from unlatching. Maybe you could have someone push down on the lid while you attempt to open it with the switch or release cable. GL with solution.
It may already be unlatched. Try to work your fingers under the hood and lift. For awhile, until I got my hood latch spring fixed, I could unlatch but it still looked like the hood was latched down. It wasn't, all I had to do was pry up a little bit with my fingers and the hood would open right up. Fixed my hood latch spring and have not had that problem again. Alternatively, have someone push the button while you do the lift.
I had a similar problem when I bought my car a few months ago. Frunk intermittently wouldn't open, then would open a few hours later when I tried again. Took it to the dealer and they said they had to replace the latch, I think I also read sometimes it just needs to be adjusted.

I had the same problem last month. It would work intermitently and always seemd to fail when I had groceries in there. I purchased a new latch from the dealership and installed it myself. It only took me about 20 minutes. Very easy install. One more thing....when my old one did work, you could hear it release...like a "pop" sound. When I installed the new latch last month, I loosened up the the two bolts on the metal latch itself and raised it by pulling gently. I raised it maybe and eighth inch or 16th. Needless to say, it is now extremely quiet and zero pressure on it. It also closes nicely with the plam of my hand once it is down.....my palm to gently lock it. Here is the part # 996 511 127 00 $90.45 plus tax.
**** I was able to remove I belive 3 screws on the passenger wheel well with the tired turned outward and reached in to pull the cable. I needed a flashlight to peek in there to initially see the cable loop. I did this to get my groceries out before replacing the latch. It was easy, a little dirt on my hands from the tire and pulling the wheel well out a few inches to get my nad in. 15 min max....Hope this helps..

SInce he didn't check back in, I'd bet he had someone provide slight downwarnd pressure when he pulled the button and it opened up. Happened to me before, too. I relocated my manual cable such that I just would have to push in the rubber intake under the tow hole, and the cable is there. Pulls open the frunk much easier than through the wheel well, and I don't have to hassle with the wheel liner, etc, which on my lowered car, means taking the wheel off..
Thank you all for your clever ideas. I had my wife put pressure on the emblem, and it opened right up. I plan on replacing the latch mechanism soon, so thank you for the part number. I appreciate all of the timely input. Thank you.
