Default Replaced Motor mounts, huge difference

I had pretty obvious vibration at idle, felt and even seen through the seats. My exhaust tips were hanging a little low as well, despite efforts to adjust them a little.

I was planning on getting the Torque Solutions engine mounts for more possible longevity, as well as drivetrain stiffness. (similar units to the Wevo's) I decided against it, because I mainly wanted to rid the vibration and wanted to see how smooth it'd feel with stock mounts. I also autocross once in awhile, but not enough to justify sacrificing vibration.

Here is the comparison of the old stock mounts vs the new ones from Pelican Parts.

The tips also came up a little, looking less droopy. I also Did a quick test, and at idle the car is so smooth with no vibration. Glad I did it...

Also, those of you afraid to tackle it. It was possibly the easiest DIY I've ever done on a car. If you can take your wheels off, you can do this.

By the way, I'll give away my old mounts for free (just pay for shipping) if anyone wants to use them as a subject for one of those DIY semi solid mount projects.

Good job! Hope you didn't get dirty.
Thank you for the pic. Nice graphic example of new vs old.

How many miles are on the car? Did you do any measurements of how far the tail pipes were drooping versus where they are at now after the change? I have a feeling mine are gone as well, but I dont have a rough idle or any real vibration, just an excess amount of thud from the back end even if I go over the smallest bump, and the tail pipes seem to be a little low. Its too bad these stock mounts cant even survive 10-15 years before they are used up.

I did mine about a month ago and the results are nothing short of dramatic. I bet that the vast majority of the cars out there with original mount have suffered partial to complete failure. I had one that started leaking oil, hence the change out and the other was nearly completely collapsed.

There is a lot of bang for the buck with this simple DIY!

I have been tempted to do mine. After reading the positive results here and on how easy the DIY will be I am defo gonna have a crack at it even if the car needs them or not lol. Thanks for the posting.

I've said it before, it is by far the BEST AND EASIEST DIY I have done on my 996. Dramatic results, not a lot of cost, and unbelievable difference. I had all of the classic symptoms, lowered tail pipe, vibration at idle, rattle in passenger seat, etc., etc., etc. If you have any of those things, do them. It also helped cut down on the rattles in my car as the vibration quotient went down significantly.

Sounds like a great intro into working on my new (to me) 2002 Targa. Only done the brake pads and 997 shifter installation so far. My car currently has 79k miles on it, think it's time to replace the motor mounts? Anything I should look for indicating its time to replace them? I've seen a few threads stating how it was the best/easiest repair they've done.

Thanks,
Chris

Sorry, just read Invius's post who listed the signs. Got a bunch of rattles (may be because of the Targa), but I think I'll go ahead and replace them anyways.

I did mine at the 60K tune up and I agree the best bang for the buck and super easy DIY.

Super easy, inexpensive (going with OEM versions from Pelican), and very well worth it.

+996, did mine with 48k miles on them. Huge difference. I think its the time, not the miles that does it for those fluid filled units. Also used the Pelican ones.

I'm going to have to tackle this soon, my passenger seat shakes like crazy at idle. 82k on my 911 so I'm sure they are pretty worn by now.
