Wow, Unicorns appear to be fairly common...

An actual failed bearing is rare, especially on cars with over ~50k miles. If it was going to happen, it would have happened by now
Darrick, I think its because all of the SR's seals fail and most allow motor oil in (and out) enough to allow the bearing to survive. Its the ones where the seals fail but prevent enough oil flow, that meet with disaster. Who knows at what mileage this occurs? Mine at 57K had failed but bearing survived because of oil flow through it (obvious upon inspection).

I think you would have to be nuts not to change it while doing clutch. I think if your honest with a potential buyer, this will be a positive not a negative selling point for your car.

and Mike, I said SR not DR cars. Jeez, this turned into another poll?

Mine has 58K on the original bearing but a new one is going in this weekend. Call me crazy but I'm not taking a chance.

He's out driving.

Exactly. Drive your car and maintain it or sell the damn thing or at least suffer in silence over not knowing what you should do. No more posts from people looking for us to reaffirm their decisions for or against replacement.

Say what you will about the IMS problem not being real or about people with vested interests hyping up a failure that is unlikely to occur but that IMSsolution oil fed plain bearing that Jake et al developed looks pretty slick and elegant.

Me personally - I have 203K kilometres on my car, but the engine was replaced at 70K kilometres for reasons unknown (I actually think it was for some reason other than the IMS).

Get this though...the replacement was done in 2005 and I got the first of the new style engines with the bigger bearing which can not be replaced from the outside. So that 133K kilometres (that's 82K miles) on a big bearing motor and it's going as far as it's going.

I replaced the clutch last year and it was bone dry around both the IMS flange and the RMS so I left it alone.

I sleep fine by the way. These are fantastic cars.
