Low oil pressure
I'm posting this here first then I'll x-post on the 996 forum.
Every once in a while I'll get the low oil pressure warning. It's after the engine comes up to temp.
Any idea what could cause this?
Thanks,
Rob

Probably nothing, just ignore it.

Oil pressure sending unit? relief spring? oil pump? Engine dying?
And it is supposed to be somehow lower when engine is hot.
What are the readings?
Plenty of search results here and at renntech.

Thanks saved me the trouble of cross posting.
Anyway - when the engine is at running temp sometimes the oil pressure drops below 1 bar for just a brief moment, the warning message comes on, I clear it and doesn't happen for awhile, then it will happen again.

oil pressure sending unit. Get a 19mm crows foot, long wobble extension and change it. Loosen it from the bottom.

Step up one viscosity grade.. If that doesn't do it, the oil is either getting too hot, or the internal clearances of the engine are toast...
Or the oil pick up tube looks like this.
Or all of the above because its been injured from being ran with low oil pressure.

Rob, before everyone hits the panic button and obvious things aside;
Is it still high on intial startup, cold engine? Around 5 above idle, then slowly lowers as engine warms? Steady readings indicating gauge and sending unit are somewhat accurate?
After fully warm does it flucuate or just read low somewhat steady at idle? Does gauge reading increase steady and normal as RPM's increase or flucuate wildly?
Any extra valvetrain noise when hot and at idle?
Hopefully just a sending unit and/or connection at sending unit but the only way to be sure is with a real mechanical gauge.
Pulling sump cover and checking is never a bad idea but hope you wont need to.
What oil are you running, mileage?
Hope everything works out. Good luck.

I would suggest to swap in a new filter, also check the wire connections at the sender.
pull some oil from the old filter and drip it onto a black piece of cardboard,
look at the oil in the sun with a magnifying glass,
if you see lots of metallic s then you have engine bearing issues, if its clean then its from a sender or clogged line or filter or the gauge is misreading ,
then fit a pressure gauge to the sender port to verify the gauge
