I put in an Interstate battery about 4 years ago for $125 and it does the job.

I put in a Bosch Group 48 battery from Pep Boys two weeks ago. Perfect fit for the terminals, mounting clamp, and even the drain hose. Price was $108, but there was a 20% coupon that I printed from their website, which brought the price to under $100

Best battery, or best for $50?

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...t-battery.html

I prefer AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Gel type batteries
I replaced an Interstate MTP-H7 With a Braille 7548 AGM battery - direct replacement.

Braille AGM B7548 battery group 48
BCI Group: [?]Group 48
Length:10.9" (277mm)
Width:6.8" (173mm)
Height (without posts):7.5" (191mm)

http://www.braillebattery.com/index....durance_series

Battery sizes that fit 996 (group 49 will probably need a nut under the last, unthreaded, hole in the tray)

Group Interstate number Dimensions L x W x H Posts
48 MTP-H6 10-15/16 x 6-7/8 x 7-1/5 Top
94R MTP-H7 12-3/8 x 6-7/8 x 7-1/5 Top
49 MTP-H8 13-15/16 x 6-7/8 x 7-1/5 Top

Its not a race car? Who cares about weight? This will fit and works much better than the smaller ones. (insert "Thats what she said" joke here)

Krazy
I like AGM batteries not for weight. Like sizes weigh pretty much the same as standard flooded lead acid batteries.
I buy for performance. (Why buy expensive Joe Gibbs oil when Shoprite reclaimed oil will work or a $100k Porsche when a $15k Nissan Versa will get you to your destination for less $$?)

I have AGM batteries in the 1972 911 that are 12 years old and going strong.
I just replaced the 11 year old AGM battery in my BMW motorcycle this spring. Prior flooded lead acid lasted 4 years. It was still working but 11 years on a bike battery was long enough for me.
I also like that the AGM doesn't need a vent and can't spill. They can be used laying on their side if that floats your boat.

These are the same enthusiast that quibble over oil, thermostat, suspension, tires, aero kits, brakes, etc...

Everyone wants their car to be a race car, what are you smoking?

Frank, I know the AGM's as well but just didnt need it for my 996. Some of our AGM's at work have not lasted like yours. Maybe the high amp loads hurt them. My response wasnt directed at you, just OP. I posted before I saw yours. Sorry if it sounded bad.

Has anyone tried the Autozone Duralast Platinum AGM direct replacement? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...9458_351727_0_

The spec looks pretty good: 94R/H7 size (12+ in), 800 CCA, 140 min reserved capacity, 51lb, $180

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find much user review on the Internet. I noticed its spec is comparable to Optima yet it's much cheaper.

Not a problem. I have had great luck with the AGM. That said the Braille has increased by $100 since I bought mine!??!
