New Cabriolet Owner
Hi All,
Just picked up a 2003, cab, with 17k mile and a 3 year/36k mile warranty. it is like new. And I want to keep it this way. I am worried about the top as it will be a daily driver, left in the sun at work all day. Would you do the following:
1. Apply a protectant such as Raggtop or Renovo and let their claimed UV protection do the work. Or
2. Take a car cover to work and cover it every day.
Thanks
Scott

I can't imagine the amount of grief I'd get from my co-workers if I put a car cover on my cab every day.
Ontop of that, a car cover can cause more damage to the paint if it's windy than it's worth. Not a good idea for an open parking lot.

Congrats on the purchase Scott; looks like you found a gem; low miles, minty AND with a 3/36 warranty!
+1. the liquid protectants are good for water repellancy, but not for those hot sunny days. Car covers are just too bulky to deal with, plus the dust/dirt factor.
There is a cover made just to cover the passenger compartment which significantly reduces the interior heat and damage-causing temps that will certainly ruin the cab fabric and interior components in short order. I have seen first hand what prolonged sun exposure has done to Pcar dash leather and interior bits.
search on ebay for California Pop Top cover. Tyvek, light weight and folds into about the size of a basketball.
email the owner, mention 996 Porsche Cab.
No affiliation, but I purchased one when I had my Cab, and vendor replaced it gratis when the Tyvek started to tear. Sold the Cab, now use it on the Turbo, as needed. IIRC, it has a 2 or 3 year warranty.
I also purchased one for a friend with a 370Z and he also says it has kept his interior like new.

I use the half cover which covers the interior with the top down. This way the top isn't"t exposed to the sun and sucking heat into the interior. It keeps the interior cool and out of the protected frim the sun as well.

Just keep the top down as much as possible! No cover needed. I live in AZ and my top has shown 0 signs of fading. Great looking car by the way! Love the color, and the wheels, and the....
