Safelite came back at $620. Better but still not something I'd do unless absolutely necessary. Oh well, I guess I'll live with the scratches.

My windshield is probably the same as yours RD. No chips but scratched and sort of pitted. It is more cosmetic than anything. My insurance had no problem replacing it but the catch was OEM vs aftermarket. Safelite is my insurance company vendor and OEM was not an automatic option. I had to specifically ask for it and pay the difference. I too will just wait until the whole thing blows out.

As I recall, that happened to me too. Before my appointment they called up to say the price was incorrect as they could only get the windshield from a Porsche dealer (for approx. $800).

I've had my windshield replaced twice in the past year.

First time was through Safelite and it was around $700 and then second time I went OEM at close to $900.

NC doesn't offer free glass replacement like I recall having in other states. So in both cases I was out $500. And keep in mind if you call to just inquire about it they often will note that as a claim so you might as well just go through with it.

I didn't know that free glass replacement varied by state. Even in their commercials, Safelite notes that most insurance will pay for glass repair or replacement. They must place their adds locally rather than nationally. I went on the Saflite website. Here is some info:

Insurance FAQs http://www.safelite.com/auto-glass-r...nsurance-faqs/

These FAQs cover the insurance basics for auto glass repair and replacement. You should always refer to your policy for more detailed information.

Will checking my deductible or inquiring about auto glass claims raise my insurance rates?
Asking your insurance provider about your policy coverage and deductibles is generally not considered a claim. To be certain, please refer to your insurance policy.

Will filing an auto glass claim count towards my insurance policy?
In many cases, insurance companies will not count auto glass damage as a claim on your policy. To be certain, please refer to your policy or contact your agent and/or insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage.

What if I only have liability coverage?
Because liability insurance only provides coverage for damages to another vehicle, auto glass services are not covered under your liability policy. Safelite® offers multiple payment options including cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

Will all insurance companies waive my deductible if my windshield is repaired rather than replaced?
Many insurance companies cover windshield repair at 100% coverage with no deductible. A Safelite® representative will be happy to help you with your questions regarding insurance coverage.

Call us at 877-664-8931 for more information. Contact your agent and/or insurance provider or refer to your insurance policy to confirm your specific coverage.

What if my deductible is the same or more than the auto glass service?
You can pay for the work yourself. Safelite® offers multiple payment options including cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

Do I need to contact my agent or insurance company before I contact Safelite®?
No, we can do that for you. We're experts at verifying coverage, filing the claim and handling all the paperwork. Our affiliate company, Safelite® Solutions, administers auto glass programs for more than 150 insurance companies. In many cases, we have coverage information available online. If not, we'll contact your insurance company and submit the claim on your behalf.

I have a zero deductible glass replacement policy, so my annual windshield replacement (gotta love living in the mountains!) costs me nothing out of pocket. My insurance was billed $827.63 for my last windwhield at Safelite Auto Glass. I am pleased with their work.

For OEM glass on my 07tt I just paid $1050.00. That was at the dealership. They supplied the glass and the sub out the labor.

Safelite in Denver quoted me $384.46 with a "quoted" $88 discount.
They use Pilkington Glass here in Denver.

I had another shop willing to match that price with the same glass.

OE windshield is close to $1k installed. It's the little FM radio wire in the windshield. The non-FM radio windshield is something like $400.

You want the Sekurit OE windshield.

Yes, all OE german glass is soft as hell and is wavy.

You want to consider protecting the windshield with a product like ClearPlex. PM me if you need more info.
